Imaginary Extract: “The Enforcer: The Making of Peta Credlin” Credlin has always understood power not as a thing to be shared but as a commodity to be hoarded. Where Abbott flailed, she organised. Where colleagues muttered, she dictated. She is the product of a party in decline, a machine running on fumes, where loyalty was demanded and dissent punished. Her influence was never simply advisory; it was authoritarian in miniature - a government within a government, run from a corner office with the blinds permanently drawn. She came to embody the paradox of the modern Liberal Party: outwardly promoting discipline and family values while inwardly thriving on control, division and the constant policing of her leader’s every move. She was not, as some suggested, a mere gatekeeper. She was the lock, the key, and the guard dog chained to the front door. And yet, for all her ferocity, her legacy is inseparable from Abbott’s downfall. In politics, reputations rise not just on victories but on failures carefully excused, and hers were excused until the whole edifice collapsed. Credlin was left to recast herself not as the architect of ruin, but as its commentator - stepping into television studios where power is simulated, not wielded. I don’t buy for one second that Trump voters didn’t know Project 2025 would be his playbook. They just didn’t think it would touch them. Oops!

CNN needs to own its role too, letting Trump lie unchecked and pushing that lazy “both sides” framing between him and Kamala Harris.
