Dude ran so I didn't have to. No desperation here. I am just not willing to sit quietly while lies spread about people I know.

I get distrust. One way to overcome that is from talking to or listening to him and those who know him rather than randos online. I'm asking folks to do that. Go watch him.
I'm not okay with that comparison. I am not willing to defend sexual assault.

I am willing to say that the man I met has demonstrated to the community how far he is willing to go to stand up for the rights of minority groups and has tried to atone for stupid posts online before he knew better.
I have said that I am willing to elect a different candidate if one is offered that is better. Thus far, Platner is the best I see. I am defending my choice while I wait yo see anybody offer better. I gave you the opportunity to sway me. You seem to just want to oppose. I'm not interested in that.
He does discuss the environment. Being an oyster man is very different from being a lobster man. Oyster farming is actually restorative to the environment while lobster are disappearing and moving north due to climate change. The stances are very different.
Yes, but I also read what the Wabanaki leadership had to say on this and other matters. How they were pushed out of negotiations about their own future multiple times. I take their word over Mills.
He has come to recognize his privileges and use them to support the community, including women. He realizes that he was not only wrong, but that he has a duty to change other men's minds as well.

I found out about the tattoo along with y'all, but am told he thought this was better than hiding it.
I found out about it along with the general public. My understanding from others is that he found out as he decided to run and said he would deal with it. He didn't want to cover it up and make people think he was hiding it. He thought this was most transparent.
Who are you suggesting we elect? If you know Platner's character better than his neighbors enough to assume he will change everything he is, you must know a better candidate. Or would you prefer we not vote and let the parties pick for us?

"The feeling in the room, among people desperate for someone to chart a way out of our current disaster, was electric. Afterward, several other people who went in undecided said they were leaning his way."
I am willing to move to better candidate if one arises, but I am not willing to throw out the good one I have because national folks say so, especially when many either know nothing or want him gone to maintain their power and twist the narrative.
Platner speaks well on and has taken action in all of these issues. Saying Mills is good because she has a national platform rather than local on one of these issues doesn't make her a better candidate.

If you wish to insinuate something about me, you are barking up the wrong tree.
The comment I responded to cited Mills.

I made informational calls in 2020 and let folks know about all the platforms for all the candidates on their ballots. I'm not sure how Collins won even here in District 2 as all sides of the aisle hated her.

We will run the best candidate we can.
Ask the Wabanaki about Mills. Ask disabled folks. Ask poor folks. Ask immigrants. Ask schools. One issue doesn't make her the best candidate.
Tell that to a long list of freshman Senators with little known national political experience. You can Google. Yes. Yes. He names communities in his speeches. Listen to the man. Don't claim something doesn't exist because you haven't bothered to look yet.
It seems the national opinion is that we should only run candidates who are wealthy and spent their whole lives in politics. In Maine, that means from away, don't understand our struggles, and only want to uphold the status quo. Appeasing that mentality keeps harming us.
1. You are over a year late to this convo. Short form is we want younger candidates who weren't just born and raised for politics. No need for 20 year wait for federal office.

2. Like Harbor Master? Like leadership in regional and state level organizing?

Maybe you don't know enough to opine.

“This has NOTHING to do with the SHUTDOWN. The law REQUIRES and the funds are available to continue SNAP right now without any interruption.

So that is a DECISION the president is making on his own to ALLOW people to go HUNGRY." - Senator Peter Welch on SNAP Cuts
Maybe they should actually wear respirators rather than just trying to hide their identities.

NEW: About 90,000 people living near larger chemical plants face an unacceptable risk of developing cancer, the EPA says.

New rules adopted last year could’ve cut that number to 3,000 residents — a drop of 97%.

But Trump has halted those efforts.
Air Pollution From Industrial Facilities Is Far Worse Than Estimated
The Trump administration has put a stop to EPA rules that would have required more than 130 industrial facilities to install air monitors to measure pollution. Millions of people living near these pla...

For a minute I was reading this as you being a chronic illness patient bemoaning being told to advocate for yourself more and the expertise you need to do it successfully. I thought "Same. Sigh." before rereading.

So let me add another thing to be good at: Remember the patients are people.
Can we please make elected officials get the same median pay and healthcare as their constituents so the outcomes of what they do actually matter to them? Maybe make them young enough that they know they will live through the consequences long enough to matter?

Because I actually know the man, his friends, and all the organizing and mutual aid he has done in the area for the last couple years. I know the folks who pushed him to run. I know the lives he will change if he can be elected, and how much that matters to him.
Here's an attempt at an explanation.

Graham's friends over the last two weeks have been raising money for food banks, literally building fences for someone who couldn't, planting garlic for a small farm, and offering many more community supports using a network Graham helped build.
I am doing something big to make my corner of the world better. If there were more folks like Graham in positions of power, I wouldn't need to fight so hard.
