What's wild is Dems had a trifecta in 2021-22 and could've done all this, but chose not to because they were serious about trying to return the country to regular norms of governance. But now, the GOP's conduct over the last 9 months has made these things much more likely next time Ds have power.

It's pretty wild that Trump has deteriorated to the point that Wolff's shameless, over-the-top fabulism now actually seems plausible.

Weird, it's almost as if Johnson is an unserious, malevolent, mendacious hack who tries to hide his true nature behind a veil of false piety. 🤔

Sounds like Bondi, Blanche, et al. are pre-emptively trying to put distance between themselves and the case so they can say, "We weren't a part of this" if/when it blows up.

Wow, I'd forgotten that was a thing.

He's positioning himself against an entirely fictitious world that exists only in his imagination, as Dems had the opportunity to nix the filibuster and pack SCOTUS under Biden but declined to do it.

They just lie so much and so easily.

If 90% of the House GOP feels the same way, that means there are 22 GOP reps who'd vote with Dems. More than enough, along with Dem votes, to pass an extension of the tax credits.

That's why House GOP leadership is blocking a vote on it. They know it would pass.

...of the visual of huge numbers of regular people protesting Trump, and they're also trying to incite violence in and around the protests to give themselves a pretext to order more violent crackdowns by federal forces and the National Guard.

Helpful to recall some context here. Remember, the last round of No Kings protests were in June on the same day of the military parade that Trump threw for himself on his birthday. The parade was embarrassingly flat while the protests were big and peaceful. They're trying to avoid a repeat...

Worst. Golden. Age. Ever.

He'll probably respond to the Nobel Peace Prize snub by blowing up some more Colombian fishermen.

Johnson has now trotted out the "We're so angry," "I'm a patient guy," and "I've had it with these people" lines multiple times now in the last few days. They're becoming his go-to crutch lines.

His act has a very Festivus "Airing of Grievances" vibe to it.

They think if they can just punish Americans enough, the country will magically turn into the Ozzie & Harriet fantasy they think it should be.

Been saying this for a while now. MAGA says they love America, but what they really love is a fictional, sanitized version of 1950s America that only existed on TV shows. They hate America as it actually *is*, which is why they work so hard to hurt the country.

I don't doubt what you say is true, but there's also something else at work here. It feels like there's been something of a vibe shift lately, especially after the Jimmy Kimmel affair. Institutions don't seem quite as afraid of defying Trump now as, say, 3-6 months ago. Cracks are forming.

It also strikes me as a sign that the hangers-on who are driving much of this are coming to realize that Trump's political fortunes (and possibly his health) are declining faster than expected, so they're hitting the gas and trying to speed-run the country to authoritarianism before the music stops.

Pretty wild that it takes no fewer than EIGHT masked ICE goons to pull one unarmed woman out of her car and arrest her.

Pssh. Last month he was promising to bring down drug costs by 1500%. That's Trump and the GOP for you, folks. Always moving the goalposts.

The 4th Amendment doesn't "protect" the government. It protects people *from* the government by setting standards and requirements the government must satisfy before it may search or arrest someone.

Also, "reasonable suspicion" is not sufficient grounds for an arrest.

Comey is going to end up owning Mar-a-Lago when this is all over.

SCOTUS majority: Of course states can restrict or ban health care practices they deem harmful.

20 states: OK, we're banning gay conversion therapy because it harms kids and doesn't work.

SCOTUS majority: No not like that, we just meant abortion and gender-affirming care.
