The first of three digitally rendered comic-style is pages. The top half of the page depicts a scene of Arthur Lester on the floor, bathed in darkness with sharp blue moonlight lighting half of his face, gritting his teeth in rage. He struggles against pale tentacles, one wrapped tightly around each of his arms. In his right hand he raises a kitchen knife above his head, smeared with gold blood. His left hand clutches two severed ends of tentacles, also spilling golden blood. Below is a frame with a close up of one of Arthur’s eyes, looking shocked, a tentacle obscures the rest of his face and another extends from outside of the frame to brush against his temple. Where it meets his skin a bright burst of gold light shoots outside the frame, as well as lines of light resembling broken glass. At the top of the page glowing golden text reads “Drop the knife.” above a frame of John in his monstrous form in profile—his eye glowing with misty golden light, his crown of spines extending past the frame—overlaps one of a closeup of Arthur’s eyes rolling back, spilling that same golden light. At the very bottom more text reading “Stay down.” beside a frame of one tentacle unwrapping itself from Arthur’s limp arm, leaving sucker bruises on his skin. Arthur’s hand fallen limp on the ground, dripping blood from his torn thumb nail. More golden text at the top of the page reads “Go to sleep”. Arthur’s blood pools on the floor, mixing with a splash of golden blood. Both colours of blood intertwine as they drip past the wood floor and disappear into darkness
