The article cites a policy that trans people can only gain legal recognition of their gender by undergoing GRS, which isn’t a policy I support, & it certainly would encourage GRS, but it isn’t the same as “forcing” people to have surgery.

Iran may or may not be forcing trans people to have gender reassignment surgery, but the UNHRC report www.ohchr.org/sites/defaul... cited by the NYT www.nytimes.com/2025/10/10/w... does not contain any such claim, much less the direct quote the NYT attributes to it.

Oops, I guess I should have read the whole article; the bill establishes a whole series of “Discrimination Prevention Coordinators”. But the whole article aside from this one paragraph is about alleged antisemitism, and it’s clear that’s what was driving this bill.

From that article, a perfect example of someone expressing an antisemitic statement precisely because of the deliberate conflation (by Zionists!) of Zionism & Judaism (that’s assuming this claim is true; that’s not certain, because Zionists make up stories like this).
