Whenever Watson deduces anything, Holmes is so pleased even when (and possibly especially when) Watson completely fucks it up. Brett has Holmes practically wriggling with pride and it's SO CUTE

Plans with friends fell through today because it's gross out, which on the one hand: bummer, I like my friends, but on the other hand: first hot chocolate of the season PLUS I'm back on my Granada Holmes bullshit, it's gonna be a nice day

At some point I should probably do some homework but whatevs

Yeah that tracks, also I really want him playing Watson in a new period sherlock (no more modern adaptations pls I've had enough)

I looked at the menu and was like "I want one of everything"
leupagus.bsky.social
Yes exactly! He can definitely be rude/thoughtless at times, but he's gracious when reminded to be and Brett captures the weird push-pull of "I want justice" and "ugh this crime is BORING" that most adaptations can't quite manage (Elementary imo is runner up but makes Holmes a little too earnest)

Then I defer absolutely to your expertise (also I agree wholeheartedly)

I gotta get a microscope

and some cocaine

I don't know if there were Watson Wars like there were Ray Wars, but I love both David Burke's and Edward Hardwicke's versions. Burke is more "oh you rascal you" whereas Hardwicke is more "I will die for you also you're wonderful" and both work great with Brett's "oh you lovable dummy" affection

...also I'm realizing with a sinking feeling that I imprinted on Holmes's apartment to such an extent that, barring the cocaine and microscope, it's pretty much exactly the same asthetic

So because I live a super exciting life, I'm home on a Friday watching Granada Holmes (aka the best Holmes) and one thing I always forget is what a stone-cold WEIRDO Jeremy Brett made him. His mannerisms, his facial tics, dude is just a freak and it's absolutely tremendous to watch.

I mean yeah, the cloudy eye is obviously one that sees into the future

I'm with you, love and light to MA but anyone like this I'd want to avoid like the plague tbh

Martin has always struck me as a guy who wants to be Fantasy David Mamet but who, frankly, isn't talented enough (which...neither is Mamet), but the Dunk & Egg stories were a departure in that they were *stories* and not desperate bids for Pulitzers the way most of ASOIAF is.

I've gotta say that this is the first adaptation of the westerosiverse I've been legitimately excited for since... the first season of GOT? Because it really does feel like they're going for the storybook version rather than the "rar realism everyone's terrible!" version that they did for GOT/HOTD.

Next time we're in the same room I request this mighty gift

The older I get the more I realize a lot of these old white dude authors of the 19th/20thC are the literary equivalent of Brussels sprouts: people consumed them because there wasn't much else but we've made improvements in taste since then and we don't have to subject ourselves to this anymore

On my walk today I picked up John Updike's "Witches of Eastwick" because I've never read any Updike and I vaguely remember liking the movie, and I'm a little baffled as to why this dude is considered a Master of American Literature. It's just... guys it's the most tedious book alive
