Impressive! I learnt over there-no-one spoke English so had to get fluent fast. I taught my son as a party trick to respond, “Hai” repeat question phrase but knock off “ Ka”
EG- Me: Your head is very big is it?
Him: (no idea what he’s saying): Yes! My head is very big.

After 28 years, my son seems to have realised I speak Japanese. He heard me ordering our meals in Japanese and chatting with the till assistant at the Japan Centre.
Him: Wow!
Me: How could you not know, given that I taught you Japanese as a kid?Anyway now he keeps sending me videos to translate.

I found Mandarin really tough after mastering Japanese. The tones!
I’m shameless 🤪 but for a good cause. We’ve amazing success in getting members of our communities elected. Really make a difference altho’ the party largely ignores us. Some great work on transnational repression at Conference too.

Why does what Badenoch say get so much attention. Why does everyone respond? It’s just fiction. LibDems are currently level-pegging with the Tories in the polls and everyone is beating the Tories in council by-elections. Their own members didn’t even attend their conference.
