Two boughs of a large twisted tree reach out across the image from the left. Through the bare branches you can see a harbour with a lighthouse, pier and a few houses. The book title and author are printed on large fabric banners that are placed around the boughs at the top and bottom of the page. The artists uses sepia, grey and brown umber colours to suggest that it is dark, the lighthouse light is just visible. They have used a pen technique, like on etchings to give texture to the tree, rooftops etc.
