Can't see how - the same people will use AI to generate the summary. Or do editors hope to recognise the summary as slop without er the bother of reading the review?

Ppl will generate it using GPT. Oh joy.

Just checked - 68% of all convictions in Scotland occurred in a sheriff summary court for last figs

Again, but see Scotland

Except er in Scotland where it's the dominant form. ( Most criminal cases before single sheriff) Whether we are less just than England would be a question on which I suspect there are views .

Yeh I think better to bolster public interest defenses than rely on perverse juries..

Blocked! What are you guys up to?? 🤣

Much more likely elsewhere to leave academe altogether than combine. See comments elsewhere about overwhelming lack of time in underfunded overstudented overadmined unis

I think it's actually a practice now almost wholly reserved to London although that includes Oxbridgers living in London. As usual the SE bubble is another place. Signed a "provincial" Emerita of 5 universities

If not clear I personally think this is a loss

And actually it's a reverse trend, when I joined Edinburgh most of the senior profs had a side hustle but 35 yrs later who on earth has the time? Only 0.2 decorative profs who are really only barely academics. And practitioners can't get entry level jobs cos no PhD, no pubs

The last three weeks papers?

I hang on grimly to having some kind of access to Freeview TV for this exact reason. I don't always constantly want to make choices choices! Last night I watched Official Secrets by accident cos it came on, wld never have chosen it..losing browsing is big loss, TV and books...

Thanks!!

A really terrible one that somehow sucks me in every time at this time of year is Last Xmas, the most on the nose film ever...

Ps just start at 1.46 in - bit of faffing at start ( I didn't edit it!)

Benjamin and Nelson for me!!!;;

Wowowowow ♥️

That's a pretty awesome group of people

Dyou want the terrible ones? Probably Bourne, Bridget Jones and Coyote Ugly. Cos they're ALWAYS ON on something like ITV3. Don't think I've seen anything good 6 times but nearest is Cap Am Winter Soldier which I adore, reincarnation of 70s state conspiracy surveillance genre

Finally it is doubtful if law is keeping up with the problems behind shiny technical means to deliver explanations. Dun& Bradstreet has just discovered counterfactuals. How long till chain of thought!

This creates a tension between "plausible", easy to understand, user-friendly explanations and those "faithful" to underlying reasoning. Yet law does not seem this tension & in latest case CJEU Dun& Bradstreet reinforces out of date mandate for "easy to understand" explns per rec 58 GDPR

I discuss the spread of legal mandates of explanations of algorithmic decisions but at same time increasing unreliability of explanations offered by "reasoning" LLMs. Chain of Thought not = explainability! To hallucinatory answers we thus now add hallucinatory explanations..1/2

Pleased to note my Cambridge lecture on how technical approaches to the right of explanation have gone haywire in the LLM era, is already up!

Many thanks to @CIPIL who um may not be here? And to @jennifercobbe for her v kind invitation! 1/3

Translating the CJEU judgment in Amazon vs EC on art.40 DSA: (1) giving vetted researchers data isn’t a disproportionate privacy intrusion; (2) compliance may be costly but you can bear it; (3) if you have a better way to study systemic risks, we haven’t heard it. curia.europa.eu/juris/docume...
