I’m with you on this, doubly so when it’s from a shop that doesn’t do price adjustments.

I’ll check that out. I’m also in the diaspora, and hanging out with those kids (we were all around the same age) cured me of any romantic notions before they could really set in. (We also over-romanticize the Revolutionary War, which was a messy, neighbor-against-neighbor civil war in many areas.)

I also get the impression that a lot of people in the US have an oddly romantic view of “The Troubles” because of the distance. A family friend used to host kids from NI through a program to give them a summer respite and from what I learned from them, I want no part of that kind of warfare.

I hope you have a speedy and easy recovery!

We once brought a portable electric burner with us to Disney World so we could have oatmeal in our hotel room.

Nice looking jam! I always get at least one burn when I am making my fig jam—it splatters so aggressively!

That feeling when you know a migraine is barreling up the coast at you and you’re trying to time the meds just right.

But, like, unless they are shipping in the actual Taylor brand and calling it by its government name, the sandwich name was designed in a lab to unite North, South, and Central Jersey in righteous fury.

It is! Taylor and Case’s are the 2 big statewide brands (I prefer Taylor, but I wouldn’t say no to Case’s). Legally, it has to be called “pork roll” because of the way the Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906 defined “ham,” but it remains Taylor ham in the hearts of those of us who are correct about it.

Wow. That may be the saddest-looking “Kaiser roll” I have ever seen, and the portmanteau makes no sense unless they are actually using Taylor brand on that abomination.

I’ve taken a couple of basket-weaving classes at fiber festivals and now I side-eye cheap baskets because basketry requires serious skill/effort and can’t be mechanized. Every basket out there had to be made by a person.

I’ve been there and I hope you get some relief soon.

It is so frustrating. There are so many appliances and gadgets I would like to have, but refuse to buy because cleaning them to my standards would be a nightmare!

This whole bagel thing has brought so much joy to my timeline. Thank you for a much-needed laugh!

That is totally right and fair. My pandering “I’m on the side of the Hudson that doesn’t have Taylor Ham” order feels too basic to be a winner: sesame bagel, untoasted, scallion cream cheese schmear.

Understandable. The GLPs are really fascinating medications. I’d love if we could figure out the mechanism by which they reduce inflammation, especially if that can lead to more tolerable second-generation versions.

That is amazing news!

My bagel order (sesame bagel with Taylor Ham and cheese) completely outs me as a NJ resident. Given the current mayor’s Fort Lee home, I feel like it may not be completely disqualifying, though?

Dylan thought Cash was cool enough to collaborate with, so I really don’t understand the assumptions this article is making.

Oh, that would be so wonderful! Keeping everything crossed that it all holds up!

Yes, and I guess Black Friday starts earlier every year, but I really don’t want to live without a range hood until then (the previous owner renovated the kitchen in a kind of nonsensical way and rearranging things to my liking isn’t in the cards, so OTR microwave it is).
