One of the real frustrations is the LLM tools fail constantly on any serious technical question that isn't documented to death beforehand. They're only faster than traditional search engines on questions easy enough that the speed is really an irrelevant access factor.

They're saying < 400 in a state system that is closing in on 100k employees. Corps with similar head counts have higher H1-B %s.

Imo it's typical DeSantis nothingburger. He complains about some micro percentage of the 400 (an asst swim coach), gets press, and moves onto the next dumb thing.

Is this more than a signaling exercise? Does anyone even know if FL universities were hiring staff on H1-B? For what, back office tech positions?

There has been huge growth in H1-B tech employment in Florida via consultant/tech staffing firms, but no idea whether unis ever tapped those sources.

Weakened commercial real estate, plus debt laden US retailers, coupled with Chinese brands ability to split production quotas across a global market is not a good hand of cards for US based chain retailers to play against.

There are structural advantages to Chinese brands (using Chinese factories) expanding East into the US vs Western retail going west, or US brands (using US factories), that tariff policy can't account for.

One of the interesting economic trends to watch is to what extent Chinese brand retail is globalizing and pushing into the US market. Most noticeably this is now visible in ent products, but there's little stopping them from experimenting across other market verticals.

Having been exposed to AI at the mega corp level, it really provided very little of resilient value so far.

Overspending on labor post Covid most likely unwinding, sped up by US admin economic purposeful rake stomping. Prior admin seemed to think immigration growth would absorb the overhang.

They could just rerun a story of, "people are tired of buying these companies shit", but they have to freshen the window dressing each time.

Not that there aren't structural changes happening, they just have zero idea where to look to find those.

Tariffs, but also the end of de minimis which curb-stomped drop ship from Chinese/India factories.

Doubt you'll see much reporting on it since the US sellers got cut out of the loop a while back and no one is interviewing China factories or Hong Kong web sellers.
