How is the new addition getting on?

Light shining through the tail feathers of the common crane (grus grus).
Their feathers were an opulent addition to any hat until the Prohibition of the Importation of Plumage Act (1921).

A close up image of light shining through the tail feathers of a common crane. The feathers resemble a bustle sticking up from the rear of the bird. The tones of the image are greys and browns.

"... Interruptus"
A willow warbler interrupting mating damselflies on the dipping pond at Ballycroy NP, Co. Mayo, 🇮🇪
Today's #birdoftheday set by @alan678.bsky.social is #beakful
It occurred to me that if the male let go of the female, she'd have a chance of escape.

Lovely images.
My last 3 contributions were chicks (great Black-backed gulls, Kestrel, and Northern Hawk-owl)!🙈
I completely agree re commenting on every post - not sustainable. BOTD mustn't become a chore for you both.

Two of the Northern Hawk-owl chicks (surnia ulula) definitely spotted me, the other one, not so much. 🤣

"What strange world is this?"
Today's #birdoftheday set by @robcrank68.bsky.social is a Kestrel.
This bird fledgling crash landed on a log next to me. I was standing waist high in the stream in camo headnet (demoiselles😁). It looked bemused by its surroundings.

A bedraggled bird of prey sits on a log in a grassy field. The Kestrel is mottled brown and all fluffed up. The background is a messy green of nettles and grasses.

"Pirate chicks"
The next generation of Great Black-backed gulls looking cute. Looks deceive, as anyone who has witnessed the adults swallowing a baby rabbit whole can attest.
