Vanity Fair asked me to talk about visual effects, and it was my great honor to show off some of ILM’s terrific work over the years.

Do you guys ever look at a drawing in progress and simply feel so overwhelmed by the amount of work left that it paralyzes you?

Anyways I'm 65 hours into a piece and have not yet completed the drawing step. Realizing there is a reason I put this idea off for 11 years 🙃

As we look at this gif of Twig and the Lighthouse, it makes us think of the time we tried to befriend a local crow. Unfortunately, we put out some cat food that the crow deemed unsatisfactory. The rest of the week we were dive-bombed by an enraged bird.

Moral: Appreciate your friends! #KeeperGame

I forgot about this #paleoart of Deinocheirus I produced back in 2019 until this morning. Having not looked at it for years, I think it holds up pretty well. And no, it's not got the "feather mountain" look because D. was a big animal in a temperate climate.

Forgot to announce I have a new paper out this week! Animals that are more front-heavy have thicker, differently shaped forelimb bones to deal with the extra load. Limb bones alone may thus be useful proxies for body shape - but posture complicates things. royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/...

Onto the most fragmentary of the Kem Kem theropods so far, an indeterminate dromaeosaurid known from some teeth and claw material! Size comparison and some thoughts below ⬇️

A large Edmontosaurus regalis is giving the side-eye to a young Tyrannosaurus. Rex that's just passing by.

With all the Gem Dragons I did for Dungeons & Dragons The Book of Dragons, the crystal dragon probably had the strongest foundation to build from so I really made a meal out of painting the skin folds.

This is dragon 4 of 5
Design sheet for the Crystal dragon. It had two tails and saggy skin, mama mia what more could a guy want 😍

Of all the Gem Dragon illustrations I did for Dungeons & Dragons The Book of Dragons this weirdly proved the most challenging. I pushed myself to paint a type of scales I rarely do here.

I took @abigbat.bsky.social ‘s illustration workshop over the past couple months to try to level up my painting game. It was a great experience, well worth checking out. Here’s my final, a cattle wrangler on her diamondback mount
#ttrpg #illustration #fantasy #western
A herd of terrified cows runs through dust in the foreground while above their heads against a blue sky you see the underside of a huge diamondback rattlesnake dragon spreading its wings over the herd with a cowgirl on a saddle on its back spinning a rope above her head
