If you'd like to help me get a head start on paying for a bunch of dental work and/or helping me get to Pax Unplugged, here:

I've now made this thread too long to delete so you can all see my bad takes forever or until Bluesky crashes.
I feel like we've been trying to find this right balance for years now and it's gone back and forth and the Y2K nostalgia isn't helping given how fucking AWFUL that time period was for questioning any of this shit? Fuck me, I guess. I don't fucking know.
I've also been told "nobody around you expects you to be some feminine stereotype" and no shit, if they did they wouldn't be part of my life. But that doesn't erase social stigma, ad copy, the algorithm or anything else out there. And yeah, those things DO affect me. Like they affect most people.
But that's coming from someone who DID feel "not like other girls" for a long time but never let it stop me from having girls as friends? Or felt like "guys are better friends than girls because they're lower drama?" IDK. Maybe I did it wrong.
It's still so half-baked and I've gotten yelled at over even putting any of this forward because I've been told there's no way to say "I'm not like other girls" without it being judgmental, but I DO believe it can be made as a neutral, self-focused statement?
I just also feel like there's a massive cognitive disconnect between telling girls "be yourself" and when they express that they don't feel like other girls insisting no, you are like other girls? It's a little confusing, do you want me to be an individual or not?
I definitely think an attitude of "all other women are gossipy bitches" is a problem, but it's also something that needs discussion instead of Tumblr posts jumping down throats over feeling that way. It begs a line of questioning, not condemnation.
I just think too much impetus is put on individual girls/women who feel that way and not enough on asking what have their general interactions with other women been like (bullying and cliques are a thing) and how much of it is general social pressure?
Oh no, and Hayley got so much hate over it because it was the way for people to hate on her without THEIR feminism being questioned.
I really need to sit down and write out my full take on why I think it’s okay for girls to say “I’m not like other girls” and how it doesn’t necessarily mean they dislike other girls around them. But also, I will never have enough research to prove it.
It was specifically the “once a white you’re nothing more” line that got called out for slut shaming. But it got expanded to “SHE’S SO ‘I’M NOT LIKE OTHER GIRLS’ OMG.”
(But I knew That Girl, our beef wasn’t over a guy and in the end she won anyway and I’m here on social media giving a fuck what people think about what I think about a Paramore song.)
“Well, there's a million other girls who do it just like you
Looking as innocent as possible to get to who
They want and what they like, it's easy if you do it right
Well, I refuse, I refuse, I refuse”

I’m a bad, bad feminist
Other random music thoughts: spending years nodding when people shit on Hayley Williams for the lyrics to Misery Business and being unable to talk about how you related to parts of that song because all your sins would be laid bare.
The type of guys who fetishize weird girls, get to date one and get upset that we’re like that all the time.
And when I burst into tears he tried to claim “no, I thought it was a CHRISTMAS movie and it’s too early for THAT.”
He refused to understand my love of Halloween and at one point when I was SUPER excited to watch Nightmare in like late September said something like “oh lord, are you starting with this ALREADY?”
Listening to “I Miss You” by Blink 182 and recalling my ex being an asshole about the “live like Jack and Sally” line because he’d never seen Nightmare.

And then when I tried to show him he was an even bigger asshole about it.
They had Evan Peters right there and they fucking used Jared Leto as their lead? Were they trying to lose money?
I mean, "Why DIDN'T they get Evan Peters" is a question we should be asking about a lot of horror these days.
Kermit did not fight to save the Muppet Theater for all those years for you to disrespect him by using AI.
Because time is a bastard and I refuse to suffer alone.
No @alyssamerc.bsky.social stream today for totally understandable reasons, so I feel like it's my job to share this horrific sentence:

"Fall Out Boy released Dance, Dance on this day 20 years ago."
