Close cooperation between national authorities, employers, and civil society is very important to tackle this challenge. We must protect people from this abuse and stop irregular migration.

I met with @PICUM_ today to discuss the protection of migrants from exploitation, the prevention of illegal employment and ensuring a level playing field in Europe’s labour market.

This is another key step to tackle complex and cross-border security challenges together. The agreement is a valuable security tool and will allow us to fight organised crime and terrorism more effectively.

Thank you, State Secretary Øren and Permanent Secretary Gudmundsson.

Today, we signed international agreements to exchange Passenger Name Record data with our counterparts from Norway and Iceland, which handle about 60 million passengers that arrive and depart from airports every year.

Rolling out a large-scale IT system across the Union has been a complex and demanding task. I want to sincerely thank everyone who contributed to making the EES a reality.

With the EES, we will know who enters and leaves the European Union, when and where. This achievement strengthens the security and integrity of our common borders.

Today marks a historic milestone for Europe.

All 29 Schengen countries have successfully launched the Entry/Exit System — the digital backbone of EU border management system.

Today I visited CEPOL’s new headquarters in Budapest. The agency plays a key role in ensuring that EU law enforcement officers are well-trained to meet evolving security challenges.

Joint trainings are central to delivering on our ProtectEU, our new internal security strategy.

With Interior Minister Sándor Pintér, I discussed internal security and the EU’s migration priorities, such as the returns regulation, and our response to hybrid threats.

I also met with the special envoy for combating antisemitism and EU Affairs minister, János Bóka to discuss the security of Jewish communities in the EU.

Today, I am in Budapest, where I participated in a Sukkot celebration with Andor Grósz, the President of the Federation of Hungarian Jewish communities. Together we paid tribute to the victims of the Holocaust.

The divide is not between Jews and other religions – it is between democrats and extremists. Between those who share our democratic values, regardless of their nationality, ethnic origin or religion; and those who want to undermine democracy by resorting to extremism.

We live in an open and free society, where Jewish life deserves not only to be protected but to be allowed to flourish in all its diversity.

Jewish Europeans are being held responsible for the actions of the government of Israel. This is unacceptable.

There is nothing wrong with criticising the actions of any government, but there is everything wrong with blaming Jews here in Europe for the actions of the government of Israel.

No speech, and no words of condolences can ever take away the pain of the Hamas attacks on October 7, two years ago today, and of the many violent crimes that have happened since then.

Manchester, Boulder, Washington D.C. We will never forget the courageous souls that were taken from us.

I am grateful for the good conversation on the future of European migration and asylum policies.

We also discussed the importance of ensuring security of Jewish communities in Europe. We must work together so that Jewish life can thrive in Europe. Now more than ever.

After his excellent speech to the Plenary, I had the pleasure to meet the Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Luc Frieden, in Strasbourg.

With the new rules, we are implementing a quicker and more flexible visa suspension mechanism that is better suited for current times.

Follow the Plenary session now:

Visa-free policy is a matter of trust. In my speech at the plenary session in the European Parliament today, I will address the Visa Suspension Mechanism.
