50 years ago yesterday, Notts pulled off one of the greatest results in our history knocking the mighty Leeds out of the League Cup. It was a night when the chant ‘Super Notts’ was born. Did you go to the game? What are your memories of that night? I’d love to hear from those who were there.

It looks like it was on 25th February 1950. I wonder if Lawton was on the scoresheet.

Mine’s in the loft somewhere. It’s probably worth the same amount as the guarantee the trust got from Munto 😂

Great response 😁. I totally agree about Bluesky. Much more supportive and less knee-jerk.

It was clearly meant to be. You seem far too humble to be ‘one of them’ 😂

That’s a great story. It’s amazing how we end up getting hooked.

Great stuff. A night match certainly has a different feeling to it. I can definitely relate to the crowd and the pitch creating a sense of wonder.

My dad rarely goes these days but is still black and white to the core and my obsession with Notts is very much down to him. I have so many amazing memories going to games all around the country with him. Special times.

What a start and what great memories. It’s funny what smells you can remember. I remember the smell of liniment from near the players’ tunnel.

I didn’t realise that was 50 years ago today. If I could go back in time and choose 3 Notts matches to be at that were before my time, that would definitely be one of them. I’ll make sure we have a thread dedicated to that match so that anyone who was there can share their memories.

I remember that one. I think it was moved to the Sunday because of Goose Fair. Dean Thomas’ goal was a belter. If we’d have won we would’ve been 5th, I think. We lost and dropped to about 12th or 13th and struggled to climb the table after that.

From your position on top of the dugout, could you understand what Jimmy was shouting to the players? 😁

An amazing time to start following Notts.

Your grandad sounds like he was a very astute man 😁

That must have been interesting over the years having a brother who’s a red back. Character building, I’d guess 😁

Great stuff. Seeing the pitch as you walk up the steps for the first time is always a special moment.

That was around the time of my first game. Grew up in Shropshire and went to Loughborough Uni in 82. Tried all the 3 teams in the first division, and got hooked on Notts and it certainly wasn't for the results - but they were very entertaining at both ends of the pitch.

@magpieheritage.bsky.social my first game? October 1982, my uncle thought it would be great to take me into the Notts family by watching us v Ipswich. Sat in the Main Stand I watched a 0-6 defeat. I loved walking down the side of the pitch after the game & was hooked for life!

Thanks to @ruddpie.bsky.social for inspiring the first thread on here. What was your first Notts County game? What do you recall about the day and what are your abiding memories of that first Notts County experience? Were you hooked from the start? Please share your memories.

Thanks for sharing. That first experience is about so much more than the result. The sights, sounds and smells and how they make you feel have a far greater lasting impact.
