To help you through what’s known collectively as ‘Holiday’ season (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Diwali, Christmas, etc.) Here is a talk that Prof Dawn Buse did for @migraine Ireland back in 2023 youtu.be/dY59mK16Pq4

It's not "having a laugh" for the millions whose lives are profoundly impacted Understanding the difference between a minor headache and a chronic, disabling neurological disease is crucial for empathy and proper support

October 15th is International Day for Rural Women

This may be an area where technology and telemedicine can help with, however, rural broadband issues may add an additional burden on the people living with migraine.

It's a mix of factors:

High-Cost Meds:
Specialist Access: Long wait times
Frequent Visits: due to the complex, chronic nature of the disease.
Trial & Error: Finding the right combination of acute and preventive meds is a long, costly process.

Maybe a little, but here’s why I keep posting:
Visibility Matters: alking about it keeps it from being an afterthought.
You're Not Alone: it's worth it.
Advocacy & Education: Every share helps break down stigma and educates

A few years back a study into Migraine and Anxiety concluded “two critical results were found: (a) the comorbidity of migraine and anxiety is strong and significant and (b) the comorbidity of anxiety with migraine is significantly higher among migraineurs vs. non-migraineurs.”

➡️ The Evolution: From Paternalistic to Partnership
The future of the HCP-patient relationship in migraine is a team effort. Patients are using the knowledge and confidence gained online to seek out providers who view them as a co-manager of their health.

💊 Triptans (serotonin 5-HT1B/1D receptor agonists) work by constricting cranial blood vessels and blocking pain signals in the brain, providing targeted relief from migraine attacks.
Ask your clinician if triptans are an appropriate treatment option for you

Primary Care is CRITICAL for migraineurs!

It's where most people receive their diagnosis, education, and initial preventative/acute medication prescriptions for relief.

Make sure your primary care provider is part of your migraine team! 💪
