Dude, I don't have 1.5 hours of free power in my life to get caught up yet! Slow down!!!😆

Day 7: Even the Wind is Afraid

Ghostly happenings in a girls' boarding school. Mexican gothic with a surprisingly colorful palette and a nice Act 3 turn. Good to see a gothic ghost tale not set in a crumbling manor and which incorporates a tasteful striptease to boot.

Either that or some sort of internship program to seed the Atlantic region with musical weirdness innovation.

DCC is blessed with having some talented musical folks associated with it. In addition to @lootthebody.bsky.social, we also have Glitter Wizard, both of whom are on the West Coast. But as a New Yorker, I ask, "Where's my East Coast musical weirdos?" There's ecosystem niche that needs filling!

San Francisco based glam-psych-rock band Glitter Wizard is well known to fans of DCC RPG from their song Abaca aka “the theme of the Spellburn podcast.”

But who are these mysterious rockers, and what’s their connection to DCC RPG?

Day 6: Fangs of the Living Dead

Model inherits a castle and a vampire uncle. Problems ensue. Delightfully cheese, sometimes funny (often inadvertently), and hammers my nostalgia buttons for being the sort of film shown on The Drive-In Movie as a kid. Deduct a 💀 if that ain't you.

It took 3 sessions because 1 player missed a game and all of them are big role players, but the Vampire 1e chronicle is finally about to begin actual play. Gary, IN welcomed 3 new undead residents tonight and we kick off with “Baptism by Fire” (with some tweaks) in 2 weeks. #vampirethemasquerade

Day 5: Don't Look Now

Grieving parents relocate to Venice after their child's death and meet a pair of sisters bearing messages from the afterlife. Well regarded in some circles, this one didn't do it for me. Felt like a Brit production making a giallo and failing.

I have seen the best minds of my generation eaten by lycanthropes on the night train the Eastborough.

Day 4: Howl

Commuters on a stalled train are menaced by a werewolf. Zombie film trope of conflicting personalities trapped in a single location adapts well to the werewolf genre. A few narrative surprises elevated this one beyond my expectations.

Day 3: The Vourdalak

Royal French envoy seeks shelter with peasant family whose father might be undead. Daring at times, but its flaws undermine its ambitions. Using a life-sized puppet as the villain is inspired, but only when it works.

Despite appearances, not Lovecraftian outside of allusions to other worlds/realities beneath the sea. Plenty of rocky coasts awash with waves and causeways that vanish with the tide though.

Day 2: Long Weekend

Bickering spouses go on a beach holiday and have a terrible weekend. Slow, menacing Aussie eco/reality horror likely to disappoint those looking for a typical horror film experience. Plenty to steal for a TTRPG though.

Day 1: Neither the Sea Nor the Sand

Anna’s lover dies during a tryst, but Death can’t keep a good man down. More atmospheric than horrific, with gothic touches and churning winter-swept shores. Won’t keep you up at night, but it has its moments.

Saw that one last year. Had some cool monster designs. I don’t have a specific genre, but I trend towards British horror from the ‘60s & ‘70s. The problem is I’ve done the marathon so long I’m running out of movies from that period that I haven’t seen before.
manlymikecurtis.bsky.social
Tomorrow is the 1st of October which means it’s again time for the nth Annual 31 Days of Halloween movie marathon at Chateau Manly Mike. I watch 31 horror flicks I’ve never seen before and post concise reviews of each before November 1st. Consider yourselves warned.

Let me tell you about how I was kicked out of college twice...

A single wild turkey is called a fifth. More than that is a case. Source: I worked in two liquor stores in my college years.

Saw Omen the Albino Fawn again this morning during the constitutional. They’re getting big! Also encountered a bunch of wild turkeys, who are technically called “a case of Wild Turkeys.” Or at least they should be.

I couldn’t leave this alone until I figured out where I was wrong. GameStation briefly owned Gamescience, but Lou was unhappy with their dice quality and bought back the company. Now I can get back to work! forum.rpg.net/index.php?th...
