Reagan was 17 in 1929, he came from a lower middle class family and saw what Hawley-Smoot and the Depression did to his family and those around him. I'm not now nor will I ever be a fan, but I suspect his opinion on Tariffs was from experience.

As a member of a family with Missouri roots, my father's cousins (ergo my 1st cousins once removed) are older than him and we all call them aunt and uncle. Calling people 30 yrs older than you cousin is weirder than calling them cuz....
