As someone who is a huge Trader Joe’s fan, I was complimented on my choices. And I can’t think of a better compliment 😂
My students read it in a level 5 but I have also had students in a level 3 class read it with help!
My students loved Calaca Alegre! Also Vector was a compelling read!
So I love using student actors. But it has gone bad in the past- so bad. But today I remembered that when it is good- it is so fun. ❤️

Started reading a novel with my students and used this idea from @marishawkins.bsky.social - do a dictation with sentences about the day’s chapter. After correcting, have students mark whether or not they think it happens in the chapter! Then after reading, revisit their predictions. Worked great!
Yay! Glad it worked so well! I was also thinking about it with the SLAYYY episode on dyslexia!

You may find this interesting #langchat and #edusky.

I tried to deconstruct what I consider to be realistic and attainable micro-practices (before, during, and after class) of successful students in my classes. Intention is to be clear regarding expectations and encourage successful habits. 1/3
I love this!!! Very cool and important in a language class when progress can be difficult to see
It was such an honor to hear you talk! Thank you for taking the time to visit and inspire us! And I am just a car singer but would be up for karaoke too 😂
One big takeaway- we should all have mentors who are younger than us.
CAPS (Capital Area Progressive Schools) conference today! And I am most excited to hear from @ltalusan.bsky.social ! Here’s to a day filled with learning and collaboration 😍
Love it!!! I am always shocked at how courageous I am re bugs around kids 😂
That would have derailed the WHOLE class!!!!
When you find a huge bug in your classroom and get rid of it before your second grade class arrives- that makes you feel like a master teacher 😂
Yes! I agree. There are so many factors- I think coupled with the other study that I mentioned last time and this study start to show similar patterns where more can start to be deduced.
Also Noemi Rodriguez will put in a link for a high frequency dictionary for ChatGPT to use more high frequency words which also makes it more comprehensible.
I am always happy to talk books for kids!!!! I think in a second life I would love to be a children’s librarian! (I also recommend Poodunit for the 3 year old!)
Enjoyed myself immensely!!! Thank you for having me and putting on such a great conference!!!
A great day was had by all! Thank you @marishawkins.bsky.social for a great keynote and thank you @nectfl.bsky.social for joining us!

What are the advantages of organically building vocabulary in a world language class? How do you elicit words from students in the first place?

Thanks to @marishawkins.bsky.social who inspired me with her latest post

Read the post and let me know languageteachinglab.com/thursday-tho...
Thanks!! A few other articles have been shared with me since that I hope I can add to the list!
Am looking forward to reading it (and adding it to the list of what to blog about!)
