#henryviii_2025 So looking back so far at the histories we have read I have to say this has been my least favorite. Maybe because we have seen too many shows (esp. the Tudors) and this play seems a bit light compared to what we all know about Henry VIII.

I found it difficult to understand. Even though I saw the play before I had to look up a lot of what he was saying. I loved the play. (To be fair I find all Shakespeare difficult 😆)

Thanks! I at first saw the Bastard as the voice of reason but now he seems an instigator to war. King John is at fault and the Bastard seems to say “never admit fault.. take charge”

You can take her as over the top, crazy like a stage mom, or a frantic mom who realizes they are in trouble if they don’t get their place on the throne plus her son is captured. I wonder if she felt scared that Arthur would be killed since he is a threat to King John.
