In #MathsToday I did a WTM with my yr 11. They were shook at how many questions could be done with ratio tables. I need to actually make a resource that is just ratio tables in different contexts now.

I've had in the past students finding it difficult to decide if an expression would factorise into a single or double bracket. So I created a mix of 20 questions to try and build that skill of deciding which one to use. Unsurprisingly a lot of them struggled. Better now than an exam!

I play a lot of simulation games - balance the numbers to optimise. But then that's more recreational economics for me.

I do occasionally grab my book of step problems for a laugh.

Absolutely loved your session! My department are going to be spending time creating question sets for sure. I never really appreciated how good it is for PD until you talked about it.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended #MathsConf39!

It was fantastic to see so many passionate maths educators coming together to share ideas, resources, and inspiration. Events like this remind us how powerful collaboration can be in shaping better experiences for our students.

Realising today how bad at branding myself I am - didn't even include my handle on my slides!

#MathsConf39

I'm grateful to everyone who came to my session today and had a go at creating joyfully difficult questions for their classes.

The audible groan in the room when a picture of sweets went up in a problem solving session. We really are a community #MathsConf39

Tempted to buy some e ink tablet that would have my doctoral reading on so I could easily be productive. Also tempted to just print it out. All of these are probably stupid ideas.

I'm meant to talk about my WIGs for my department.

I'll happily talk about priority targets or KPIs but I am not wild so my goals shall not be either.

You learn better when you test yourself on an answer before you study it? Even more counterintuitive, our findings showcase that there is not one direct mechanism to this effect.

So I wouldn't really work out the angle size, just write the rule down and then keep doing the rules and do the numeracy bit mentally only writing the numbers on the diagram. We do rule first but they should be treated as the answer not the numbers.

We normally teach by "work out angle and then write reasons" but I changed to "write reasons and then fill in numbers after you find your route"

Had an epiphany yesterday: teach angles questions as a series of reasons with numbers as an after thought instead of other way round.

Tired enough that I poured cereal into my mug not my bowl and got confused that my coffee was solid.

My cat forgave me for being away all weekend. At 1 am. How do I know this? She woke me up to make a fuss of me to show me I was forgiven.

Find the prime on mathsbot with a high score board. Ours went mad for it, especially after our Head had a go and we could put his score up for them to beat.

After the EdD weekend I think I now actually understand ontological and epistemological stances and why they actually actually matter.

Day 1 of my EdD done. Talking about research ethics and what makes a good lit review. I have missed doing research so much.

Did my first ever assembly yesterday. All went pretty smoothly and where it didn't, it was on resilience so I just blagged it as part of the message.

It was dead creepy standing in the empty hall listening to dance macabre waiting for them to arrive though. (We get to pick entry music)

First EdD session tomorrow and I am excited.

Also exhausted. That was a long week although dead impressed at the year 11s turning up every day for extra maths.
