In essence, a picture does tell a story. So in a sense, when we remember the dead & we pray for the repose of their souls, in a sense we are acting as an intermediary into a speedy and smooth entry into another pleasant realm. I have this brass tin jam-packed with prayer cards from visiting the dead at their wakes. Today is All Souls day as per the Catholic calendar. We take a little time out to remember those who went before us. In the Gospel of Luke Jesus raised a widow's son from the dead. Both had no names. Unknown.

we went to church this evening to remember the dead. if you wished you could have a candle lit & during the offertory the attendants placed the candle in front of the altar & then they read off the names. It was in the church where I was baptized in '47. The list was long & the acoustics were a toil

at camp during the monsoons (Pleiku '68) a few of us sat in a bunker and smoked a joint. One of the guys asked if anybody had anything to eat & I remembered a box of peanut butter that my mother had sent (what was she thinking) that I should have thrown out. that night, it turned into a delicacy.
