Maybe blame GBBO for their awful s'mores challenge from a few years ago.

We're two weeks away from opening our West Bay Opera production of Saint-Saëns' Samson et Dalila in Palo Alto. We have a fabulous cast, wonderful dancers, and a juicy chorus part. This is a great opera that isn't done often - don't miss it! Tickets are available at www.wbopera.org/tickets-page...

Can we add Beethoven remixes to this list, or are those still OK?

Heggie fan here! I haven't listened to it in many years, but I can still remember the sextet and how it ripped my heart out.

It's not just working on music, though other jobs don't have the same physical limits. I could never listen to music while working, unless it was some kind of repetitive drudgery. Anything that needed thinking couldn't have music, or the music would pull focus from the work.

What a surprise! The hotel I'm staying at in Washington, DC in 10 days is now 20% cheaper than when I booked it a month ago. I'm off to the Library of Congress for more research in the Performing Arts Reading Room. Maybe I'll see @musicologyduck.bsky.social there, but if so I wouldn't know it.

I have no idea if you've read these as they're old, but Calvin Trillin's American Fried / Alice Let's Eat, and Nick Hornby's Juliet, Naked come to mind. I'll be following this thread for more recent recommendations.

RIP Jamshied Sharifi. He joined the MIT Festival Jazz Ensemble right after I left at graduation. With his fellow new band members, he took the group to some of its greatest heights. I was so happy when he became FJE director when Herb Pomeroy retired. His gifts of music will keep giving us joy.

Thanks so much to @lisairontongue.bsky.social and San Francisco Classical Voice for this lovely review of last Saturday's Cabrillo Festival concert. It was my favorite this season. Though Gabrielle Beteag was amazing in the Heggie on Sunday. Plus the first weekend! www.sfcv.org/articles/rev...

Last night was the "In the Works" concert at Cabrillo Festival by members of the Conductors/Composers Workshop. It's 3 composers, 6 conductors, each work done twice. All were good but my clear favorite was Cages of Jade by Ethan Soledad, a student of @kristinkuster.bsky.social. He's a live one!

A while ago, we started a #FixItFriday tradition. We keep a running list - large & small, digital & analog, anything broken or annoying - and work on it together.

Today's 30-second fix: to remove AI "preview" from search results, here's the setting for Chrome users: www.reddit.com/r/techsuppor...

Thread says
"How to turn off Google AI Overview in Chrome SOLVED
Open Chrome and put chrome://settings/searchEngines in the search box.
A tab will open which brings you to Search Engine > Manage Search Engines and Site Search.
Click on the Add button by the Site Search update. A box will open. Fill in the form with the following:
Name: AI Free Web
Shortcut: @web
URL: {google:baseURL}search?q=%s&udm=14
You’ll now see AI Free Web in the list of search engines.
Click on the three stacked dots on the right side of AI Free Web on the list. Select Make Default.
From now on, google functions pretty much like it did back when it was good. Good luck out there."

In honor of Iga Świątek’s Wimbledon singles championship, I made pasta with strawberries for dinner. With peak season farmer’s market strawberries, this was a grand slam. Thinking also of tennis fan @vancegilbert.com and wishing him the best.

The catalog migration didn't succeed quickly enough, so this trip is delayed until early September, in the one week off from Samson et Dalila rehearsals after Cabrillo Festival.

Hooray! That's the only Sunday in September when I'm not in Samson et Dalila rehearsals. I've added this to my calendar.

Thanks for letting us know - ordered!

Thanks Peter for this trip down memory lane. I lived in Boston then and was watching on TV. It was so cool to hear this chant and I was proud of the classy fans at the game. It still gives me tingles thinking about that moment.

Hey, I finally saw I Confess on the big screen. So much better than seeing it on my iPad. I thought @3gjane.bsky.social would like to know. 🙂
