In fact this ending also didn't meant peace for Xena, considering that in "Soul Possession" Episode she made a deal with Ares, she gave her soul to Ares in exchange to bring back Gabrielle to life, in marriage. Which means that, after Xena's death, her soul belongs to Ares.
