Living In America

If you’re in the #DesMoines area, a photography show is opening at the Heritage Gallery in Des Moines Thursday. Featuring work by 12 Iowa photographers (including your truly) it explores different aspects & perspectives of living in America.

OPENING RECEPTION THURSDAY, JULY 10TH 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM  Living in America explores the ever-changing landscape of a nation defined by both motion and memory.  With work from twelve photographers (Charles Borowicz, Brittany Brooke Crow, Stephanie Brunia, Trenton Chesling, Tyler Erickson, Mike Hiatt, Jon Lemons, KC McGinnis, Rachel Mummey, Phil Roeder, Griselda San Martin and Annick Sjobakken) this exhibition journeys through quiet rituals in emptied public spaces, glimpses of private moments on highways, and the charged atmosphere of protests and public gatherings. It reveals how places once bustling with life can fall silent, how signs and structures record the passing of time, and how moments of personal transition mirror broader cultural shifts.  These photographs invite viewers to look closer at the complexities of American life—to see what endures, what fades, and how we navigate the delicate balance between past and future.  Curated by Jon Lemons  Jon Lemons is a professional photographer located in Des Moines, Iowa. He has worked for The Omaha World-Herald and KCCI News Channel 8. He currently shoots photography for Des Moines Public Schools and has a studio at Mainframe Studios.  THE SHOW RUNS JULY 10TH - AUGUST 8TH
