I started off on Bandcamp only - but then I capitulated and distrokid the lot - thinking, what have I got to lose. But Spotify's Twitter moment has arrived...

"At the cafe just down the street they roast a tasty bean
I order up a cappuccino, it costs a thousand streams
And if I want to pay my rent, I’m very sad to say:
It costs a quarter million streams at .4 cents a play!"

2/2 What's really needed is a boycott by the 1% who make money on Spotify - but doubt many own their master to be able to do that...

I removed mine - after i heard the AI Death Machines story - the ICE ads are new to me, which increasingly look like Trump's Sturmabteilung. My streams wouldn't buy me a pack of tiddly winks, never mind a cup of coffee, as referenced by Windbourne 0.004c per day. 1/2

Fellow Musicians.

If ever you wondered why you should pull your music from Spotify, they've been running ICE recruitment advertisements for a number of days now.

Spotify without your music has no business. Remove the bath plug.

I hate having to do them - but ive got to some training style videos for the company I work for - to make it more interesting for me - i'm using my own music for the intro and outro - and then I will be billing my employer for the music rights 😛

Michelle's Top Sing Tip No1:

If you have a song that's so emotional you break down and cry midway through - sing it on your loads and loads - until you can get through it.

Then, when you come to perform it, the emotion will still be there, but you won't crumble in the presence of strangers.

My momma and I have a reality modern tradition where she sends me photos of my stars from the Saturday/Sunday rags she buys. Don't get me wrong, I think horoscopes printed in the papers are pure bollocks. But occasionally one comes through which hits home...

I guess the only thing you can do is resist - to remind people not every shares their view - and when this shitshow is over - pick up the piece and move the ball forward. 3 steps forward, 2 steps back. why is the dance of progress so slow...?

2/2. There's something very primitive around the fear of the other and people who are different - and desire to punish, exclude and even kill them... first they create fear, then they create hate - and finally it descends into atrocities.

Sometimes, every couple of decades, a society undergoes a kind of collective madness - like the witch hunts, McCarthyism, and the Cultural Revolution. They won't be sated hurt a lot of people. And when it's over, they will say they didn't know, weren't there, and finally, that it never happened 1/2

Another musical pal, Toby Hay has new EP out today, together with a YouTube video.

The best way to listen? Stick it on in the car on a long journey - and observe your mind enter a Xen-like fugue state.

One thing that makes me sad, is knowing there’s probably someone out there in the public eye who is trans. Who looks out at how toxic our culture has become is telling themselves they could not be their true selves because of maelstrom they would have to endure.

This came up as memory from 2021. Back when the Leadmill was the Leadmill. Laura Marling was awesome 🤩

So true. I had GP question my mental health as I walked her through NHS, GMC, BMA guidance. To be fair you’d have to one card short of a full deck to wade thru the corporate speak…

GIG Announcement...
I'm pleased to say I will be playing at Queens Head in Belper on the 25th October... joining me will be my musical pal Bex Fawn Johnstone -

Michael is doing a great job - and it's so cool that he will have Paul Armfield and Winter Wilson later in the year!
