Calling for a return to paper ballots is often code for a push to have voting centers where you show an ID to get your paper ballot, walk into a voting booth, vote, and then return your paper ballot without ever having it at home.

Regarding paper ballots, Schleiker emphasized that Colorado already uses them.

"Those are paper ballots, my friend," he said, referring to mail-in ballots. "Everybody, when you sit there and you get your ballot packet and you open it up, that is a paper ballot."

Staying out of session means not working on the budget that is overdue or hammering out the necessary appropriations bills. It means not working on figuring out a way to extend the healthcare premium tax credits that Democrats are demanding.

But Mr. Trump did not take no for an answer. He forced that prosecutor’s resignation and in a social media post last month demanded that Attorney General Pam Bondi appoint a new prosecutor: Lindsey Halligan, a Trump ally and insurance lawyer who had never prosecuted a case.

The story behind the indictment says it all. A federal prosecutor decided recently that there was not enough evidence to bring charges against Ms. James. In a normal administration, that would have been the end of the case.
