On Wednesday I was united with chairs made by my gdad and dad. My family were part of the 19thc furniture and chair making boom in High Wycombe, built up by my great grandfather! This is a later 20thc type when they branched into hospital, pub and hotel furniture.

Stack inserted into a former agricultural range, providing separate services for the adjacent house, c1860s. The stack has been reworked to fit a later stove & likely still active into mid-20thc. Small copper was added later to left; brick built it was separately heated below #buildingsarchaeology

2x recruitment posters 1 dated 1906 for militia recruitment boosting numbers post-Boer War (right). The other is likely earlier going by uniform & styles. Slapped onto cut & reset panelling, within an altered space to FF of a market house. This was used a war office through WWI
Absolutely!! Really defining for phasing and understanding growth. 😍
This is when I enjoy my job the most. Revelling at the most exposed features, which would normally be well hidden. The former owner supposedly went to bed with an umbrella ☂️…

Have you seen much evidence surviving in Bath?
How much historic colour are we missing colour from our streets?

My fave feature from today & a nice follow on from last night LFG talk by Joe Thompson. This is an inserted/altered stack with 17thc repurposed beam, flipped & incised in the 18thc to mimic a brick segmental lintel. Love spotting cheap, resourceful upgrades #buildingsarchaeology #archaeology #LFG
Historic graffiti recording yesterday, out of all of it, this I found most stirring. Couple of youngsters up the tower scratched their names into the lead of church roof, alongside their evacuation year. One of them I found is a new find #archaeology #history #WWII #graffiti #church #London #Devon
I had one last night too!! Bloomin massive it was 🕷️

At a time when we are losing hand skills, I can’t figure out why the uptake for this course is so poor. Robbie is a world class class cutter, great teacher and lovely man and of course Cromarty is the best place in Scotland. Contact the Cromarty Arts Trust and book your place 👌👍

These wall paintings in the church of San Martín de Arbulo were under 4 layers of paint and are believed to be from around the 12th & 13th centuries.

The article links to another from 2018 on the website for Álava Medieval/Erdi Aroko Araba with more images, here: alavamedieval.com/las-misterio...
Quite popular it seems in Cornwall around this time!
Image of a luggage porter St Mary’s, Isles of Scilly. I found lots of evidence of limewashed granite buildings when I was last there a couple of summers ago. At this point the wash is fading (c.1900), with a more prominent pointing standing proud. #archaeology #LFG
Unsure on that one, this is what the ecologist had told us so went with their better judgment!
Archaeology meets ecology!
Drawing up a section at Stowey Castle and this little fella kept zooming through my grid, tumbling in & out of the stone courses. He is a common shrew, a species protected by the Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981! 🦉 🐭

Hacked 17thc panelling with grooved detailing, partially reset within an altered 19thc partition.

Resourcefulness or brutality?
