My social media is filled with artists announcing that they are suspending shipments to the US when the de minimis tariff exemptions are removed August 29.

This is devastating for a lot of small businesses. Canadian artists should find artworks still exempt from tariffs (in accordance with CUSMA)

For #spacetober_challenge day 11 prompt asteroid, my wee little mini #linocut asteroid

#printmaking #sciart #spaceArt #asteroid 🧪🔭
My mini linocut asteroid has a 2” x 2” printed area on a 4”x 4” cream coloured paper. The image shows an irregular silver rock on a black background with circular black outlined craters. The print is marked “1/12 Asteroid Ele Willoughby 2012”

The crazy thing was that my SIL was just driving home half an hour after the accident and recognized his bike and friend so she stopped.

The friend got my brother’s bike into her car and she went with my brother in the ambulance. Her best friend lives nearby and came got the car.

The paramedics actually told him they had not got the message about the severity of his accident. The firefighters had told my brother’s friend there was not need to call a second time, but wires were crossed.

Also, his sense of humour remains in tact.

There was some sort of communication breakdown with EMS and it took a full hour for the ambulance to arrive but luckily firefighters saw the accident and did the initial first aid. Brother said he’d rather wait on the road than in the overrun ER.

Spent the morning visiting in the ICU giving my SIL time with my nephews. Feeling a lot better. The doctors & nurses are very happy with my brother’s progress. They are managing his pain & he can sit up and talk. Surgery tomorrow. He’s got a great attitude and seems determined to be a good patient.

Literally got follow up messages that read “Hello” within 24 hours of the original. As it turns out I have a lot on my plate but even on a regular day I don’t think that’s entirely reasonable behaviour.

I am happy they are interested in buying art but I don’t think that’s an emergency.

❤️

People need to remember we’re all human.

I sort of did that and implied the issue was Canadian Thanksgiving.

Americans generally take Thanksgiving very seriously so I figured they would give me some space without me saying something with way more emotion than I should.

I know I should not just send them a photo of the ICU but it’s tempting.

I’m just going to put this out there rather than to a potential customer, but if you contact an artist and they don’t reply with 24 hours, maybe find a little patience rather than writing two more times.

It’s unlikely they have staff and it is likely they are human with a life & things happen.

Back, ribs, punctured lung, didn’t hit his head and was wearing a helmet. Was training for a marathon so extremely fit which helps but frankly it’s terrifying.

He’s not actually out of the woods yet. It’s worse than I thought. Next 24 to 48 hours are vital.

It’ll be a while but thank you

He just texted me “Hey sorry I screwed up the weekend plans”

Sense of humour in tact.

But my brother was able to sleep last night and is up and texting people this morning which is a good sign. Hopefully he’ll be out of ICU and we can visit.

My 11yo is scared of biking & we’ve been working hard to increase his confidence because bikes are such a great way to travel and freedom for an adolescent and I feel like we’ll never convince him now.

His uncle is likely to be in the hospital for a few days and I don’t know how long in recovery.

I think we’re past the worst of it. Doctor said it was lucky he is in such good shape.

A friend and co-worker riding with him said he thinks he just hit a rough patch or gravel on the road, wobbled and then hit the cement barrier and went flying.
