There’s a city in the mid-to-late game that’s overrun by rival gangs, where instead of Nurse Joy healing your Pokémon for free it’s ¥500.

There’s even a Goon doing motorbike donuts in the lobby!

And it fits the Pokémon vibe still.

As someone who works in the space, I think it’s definitely here to stay and people strongly against it are doing themselves a disservice.

But the reaction is entirely understandable when you look at how this has been rolled out.

I think AI discourse would be a whole lot healthier had the industry and its earliest boosters not been so gleeful about destroying the livelihoods of creatives.

It’s actually an incredible tool but so many people were using it as a way to get back at artists they didn’t like for whatever reason.

Subsequent winners include Mark Rylance, Sam Rockwell, Daniel Kaluuya, and Ke Huy Quan - none of them are headlining a major IP franchise after also flaming out on previous attempts.

I rewatched the original teaser trailer that came out six months ago.

Jared Leto is barely in it at all - you see his face as one of the final shots, immediately followed by the title card and the NIN score news.

I understand he was instrumental to it getting made but what a mistake as lead.

“Clanker” has been used in the context of referring to robots for some time. I said downthread I don’t consider “toaster” to be a slur either.

We did establish that there are different definitions for slur, and mine is more narrow - I don’t think any word being used as an insult counts to me.

Honestly this convo was helpful because I do think, upon reflection, my gut response to it not being a slur was informed by the 2010s woke era of trying to make everything a slur
