This is the last OC introduction for now. I have plenty of creatures and blorbos rattling around in my head that I would love to share in the future.

Just doing this at all and not collapsing into a heap from anxiety already feels like a huge accomplishment.

And those moments are kinda mesmerizing if you've ever talked with someone you just click with. That experience of "I want this person to keep telling me about whatever it is they feel like." is something I aim to capture.

Part 2 has that for both of them. Just realizing "wow, I like this person."

I'm not sure about posting a WIP of what I have for part 2, but I'm compelled to give a sense of how Mikaela works.

Just to emphasize the passion with which she talks about her special interests, Mikaela has more than one moment of talking for over a page of unbroken monologue. She just GOES.

Don't let that give you the idea that Part 2 is more serious or anything. Mikaela is a goober as much as anyone else and she's a joy to write. Her dorky femininity running up against the dorky masculinity of Tony is a dynamic I've enjoyed building.

Whether someone is family, friends, a lover, or something else, there's a unique sense of agony to not being able to help someone in the ways you want to. Coming to grips with what you can and can't do for someone is a hard experience, but it's part of life nonetheless.

Mikaela, like everyone else, has her own things going on and as her story unfolds, it becomes a matter of Tony learning what he can do for her in their relationship, as well learning the limits of that.

There's a certain magical feeling when you click with someone and suddenly everything they do becomes amazing to you.

It can be just watching them talk about their favorite things, or seeing them do something cool, but that sense of "I just want to be around this person" is throughout.

Mikaela is the beauty of trying something new, she's the experience of meeting people you never really thought you would, and the vividness of experiencing someone else's passions.

She and Tony don't actually have too many alike interests, but they're interested in each other.

Ultimately, Saburo is just a dude. He's a funny, charming, happy-go-lucky sexual beast of a dude, but a dude nonetheless.

A dude is many things, and that's the beauty of life.

Of course, all this makes the story seem so serious when, at their core, Tony and Saburo are both a couple of goobers at their core. Comedy is my soul and I can't really make a character without thinking of the ways in which they might goof off. But, everyone laughs and everyone cries all the same.

"Nobody's perfect" is often used to excuse or explain faults, but it's also just a fact of life. Not everyone has some damning flaw, but everyone has history, emotions, and other things that can impact the fantasy of a person. Saburo seems too good to be true in Tony's eyes, but there's always more.

He embodies a lot of himbo-isms but there's enough to him to resist the stereotype. That inherent complexity to a person is kind of a core to TR that I enjoy quite a bit.

Everyone has more to them than your first impression, even if they're a straightforward and honest person.

Saburo is extremely friendly and good-natured. He could not be more himself and that plays off the more withdrawn and closed-off Tony. Saburo is pretty effortlessly able to draw out parts of Tony that he wouldn't otherwise be able to express, intentionally or otherwise on Saburo's part.

Saburo is the main dish of Temporary Roommates and the gear that makes the story turn. He contrasts Tony in a lot of obvious ways. Quite the opposite of unassuming, being open and blatant about himself. #OC

But what I hope to accomplish with sharing this story and characters is putting forth that effort to push past the anxiety that comes with sharing something you've put your soul and passion into. That's part of what making art is all about, really.

Writing TR was a deeply personal experience for me and creating Tony as both a mirror and vector to explore a slew of complex emotions was a similarly cathartic. Sharing these sorts of experiences is, on its own, pretty anxiety-inducing (lol)

Yet, this isn't made to define him as a person. Anxious people come in all shapes, sizes, and ways of life. It's something that has simply been with him his entire life that he has to interact with and work through. Sometimes these interactions are funny, sometimes they're not. It's a complex thing.

What I use Tony for, primarily, is to explore anxiety. Being an anxious person myself, I wanted to portray a rounded sense of an anxious mind. There's a lot of pieces to Tony; past, present, future, interests, sense of self, and so on will all eventually hit the filter that is Anxiety.
