calcium carbonate tubes from marine worms - they live inside them
also, you reminded me I have this, which I forgot about and should have read before my trip - it looks perfect! 😣
many years ago, when we did the Muybridge exhibition at Tate Britain, I got to edit bits of film with Michael Wilson - he was asking my opinion on where to cut and I just about fainted!
I love it when this happens- I've mapped out a whole US trip I plan to do all because I saw one photo from 100yrs ago- those connections firing off like synapses on a jolly! I'll look up the book 🙏 And I have more (literal) digging around to do in SF, so maybe we can dig a bit together when I'm back
I think that's understandable. It actually shifted the whole flavour of my stay in California and after visiting I began exploring all kinds of SF histories, looking for the traces at the edges of the city. It was fascinating, and kind of helped me make sense of the place...
I got so horribly fixated on that story when I was in the Sierras last year...
I think they don't have much on board he wants... he had some peanuts, crackers, and a bit of fried egg from their breakfast - I'm not sure he should be eating egg 🤔
George! Thank you Gilly!
He joined my cousin's tiny sailing boat at first light, 500 miles off the coast of Bermuda and heading to the UK... we'll see how long he sticks around 🙏
could someone help identify this bird please?
ah, well done…I dug this out in case, but probably not enough hands!
Leigh Bowery’s diary is not entirely as I’d anticipated - which I suppose is exactly right…

Can’t be repeated often enough

‘The UK’s creative industries are vital to the economy. Valued at £124bn, they are worth more than the life sciences, aerospace and automotive industries combined. Arts and culture alone contribute an impressive £34.6bn.’

I made a replica 1914 Duncan Grant work a couple of years ago and I managed to get Roberson's rabbit skin glue, the same brand he used - it's still commercially available. But I think he picked it up in person when he was in town - they may have posted materials to artists living remotely though.

cherry pie and a movie kind of an evening 🖤
messaging old friends with memories of seeing Eraserhead, Blue Velvet and Wild at Heart at the cinema together - hard to explain now how thrilling it was to be seventeen and to fall in that space. All our changes were there.
RIP David Lynch

I don’t think “the kids” can understand how radical it was that Twin Peaks was on network tv. It premiered to *34.6 million* viewers. Crazy, man. Agent Cooper was on to something when he said “Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen.” RIP
Director-writer David Lynch, who radicalized American film with with a dark, surrealistic artistic vision in films like “Blue Velvet” and “Mulholland Drive” and network television with “Twin Peaks,” has died. He was 78. bit.ly/40is3yQ

I saw the Lygia Clark at the Whitechapel today - really good and also compact enough for a short visit. And excellent coffee and cakes next door!

A new indie bookshop opened today in Norwich. The Holloway is on St Lawrence Steps, St Benedicts Street. Second hand, zines, indie, radical and nature writing... records, film & music nights too. The good stuff.
