If they cannot secure these funds by the February deadline, they will be forced to settle, resulting in severely reduced interaction with their children. We obviously do not want this to happen. Our friend has provided for themself and their children for years, fighting their custody battle in private while continuing to be an incredible parent, friend, and educator. They can no longer face this by themselves, which is why we are asking for your support. In our current political climate, we know that our friend's situation is especially precarious. It's not like I can really recommend Le Sang des Bêtes; it's unsimulated slaughterhouse footage. But the directional philosophy influenced Lynch, among others. Violence doesn't end with death, the viewer doesn't get a break when a living being dies. It's not over. There's so much more horror after.

I know it's unfair to compare Terrifier to an immediately post-Holocaust slaughterhouse documentary but like... it really highlights the difference between truly abject violence and stylized violence porno. Franju understood how to fuck up a viewer without any mercy. It will stick with you forever.

Hot take: Franju's Le Sang des Bêtes is maybe the most effective horror film ever made, far surpassing any gross-out, shock value movie I've ever seen. Extreme violence is scary because of what happens after the act, and Franju doesn't let you look away. There's no humor in it. It's dispassionate.
