Hi, I’m Connie! Thought I’d start here with an intro: I like to make things for fun, and will use this account mostly to share pictures and videos of the things I make 😊
Oh, this was in response to the “even if you half-ass it” bit, not disparaging Easter eggs! I just wanted you to know that short alt-text is allowed and not necessarily half-ass-y 😊 but I frequently read the alt-text and appreciate an Easter egg 🌟
It’s a different species (the grocery store ones are Diospyros kaki)! Apparently there are D. virginiana that look like tiny Hachiya/acorn persimmons too, but I’ve yet to see that kind in the wild 🌱
Itty bitty American persimmon (Diospyros virginiana) I plucked on a walk the other day, vs. Fuyu persimmon from the grocery store — look how cute and perfect and little, it’s like the grocery store persimmon has a mini-me 🥹 I am such a sucker for tiny things.
Ikebana class is back 🌟
All of these materials are from my front yard, so this is almost like a little snapshot of early October in Portland ☺️ I love using my peony leaves this time of year!

Thank you! I have such a hard time figuring out how to glaze this clay — I think it looks really nice bare but tend to have glaze ideas that involve covering most of the piece 🙈
Thank you! It’s definitely a technique I want to keep playing with 😄
Glaze experiment before and after 😄
I did this one by pulling up 4 glazes in one 50ml syringe, wetting the plate to slow absorption, then emptying the syringe onto the plate and swirling it around like an acrylic pour painting. I think it turned out neat!

Newest mug, and maybe my favorite yet ☺️
The apple is painted with Mayco Stroke n’ Coat 🎨

I’ve used bisque fix on porcelain, but only on actual bisque — I try to avoid bisque fix when I can because it doesn’t hold onto glaze as well as clay does, so sometimes it creates a glaze defect (just FYI). Plus, porcelain absorbs water so fast that I find slip is glue-y enough on greenware!
Those look so well-attached! And lovely handle shapes and thicknesses too 💕
I’m so surprised you’re having issues — is it cracking? You could try using thick slip, letting the slip glob out of the seams initially, and waiting for it to dry and shrink back a bit before cleaning the join up.
My two favorites from the last batch of glaze tests — a new wax resist pattern, and some neat crystally glaze interaction from Mayco Himalayan Salt, Black Walnut, and Green Tea 💕
Last class’s ikebana arrangement (and the last one for a while probably!)
It’s another slanting moribana, with snowberry, pompom dahlia, and pink lace flower 🌼

Social media vs. real life 😂

No idea how this cup turned out SO warped, but I’m happy with how my little stroke n’ coat experiment turned out on the rainier cherries!

It is! It’s the “patchwork singlet” from that book (but cropped a bit and with a different quilt pattern) ✨
Thank you!! I just used every green-adjacent linen scrap I had pretty much 😂
Finished my sewing project just in time for the Thorns game this morning! Bummed about the loss, but on the other hand — that Croix/Trinity masterpiece?? Nah you deserved that one Spirit, we’ll take the next one 🤷🏻‍♀️

Arrangement from class today with materials from my yard — actually I brought a third material as well but didn’t end up using it! I like that my hydrangea has flowerheads in a bunch of different stages right now (new, full bloom, fading…) and wanted to really showcase that ☺️

A slanting moribana from ikebana class today — I always have a hard time with this style! I think I’m getting better at it though 😅

Climbing rose and hosta leaves (from my yard) and feverfew (from the grocery store 😂)

Looooove this teapot that just came out of the kiln 😍 I found the branch I’m using as the handle on a beach in Japan earlier this year, and made the teapot especially to suit it 🥰

The teapot is thrown, but altered in a kurinuki-inspired way!

Hahah no problem — I only knew because I was thinking the same the other day and looked it up 😂
