Just because its not as big doesn't mean its a bad thing to go back and check out. Sci-Fi films in the 80s were a time for a several films that underperformed but gained followings after like The Thing.

Also, they did just make a 7 figure deal with Katherine Rundell so theres that.

I mean, fans have been wanting a new entry in the franchise for years. Yeah its niche, but Legacy has garnered more attention and appreciation even if it wasnt a masterpiece. Like I bet you right now that you'd say the same thing if Legacy released today. It would get the same reactions.

It still can. The whole idea of Tron was to explore AI and how it can "change the world" as well as the dangers. Pretty much whats being discussed but at a time where it was just seen in fiction instead of reality.

Tron was for an age when computers were mythical and rare things, these days people are surrounded by computers, it just doesn't work anymore

- Tomorrowland was Sci-Fi so that bombing made them get cold feet. That and they bought Lucasfilm around the same time

-Really only got greenlit cause Leto kept pounding on their door and he must've offered something to convince them. No way they just said yes without some kind of deal.

It still suffers from the same issues its predecessors had like its basic story and wonky script, but its a visual treat with its great score, action, and visuals, and really thats all I can ask for in a Tron movie. Shame though we might not get another one anytime soon but I can still hope.

Legacy, while still a solid entry into the franchise, suffers the same problems as the 1982 film. It took 15 years for people to turn around on it and call it an underrated film in modern sci-fi. The issues Ares have will be the same as Legacy regardless. Its just how Tron has been.

No. It would have not been praised if it came out today. Critics and cinephiles would call this a generic Disney Sci-Fi slop. Not to mention Olivia Wilde would've been ripped to shreads by grifters. Even more so with Greta Lee in Ares
