Unexpectedly early period by 7 days. Probably what's caused everything to be stupid. Bodies are ridiculous. Menstruation is just tediously difficult and annoying. Can't uteruses live in a drawer, only taken out at times of need (or given away to people who'd want one).

Today has been rough. I woke up 3 hours before my alarm (probably pain) and was (apparently) ill-looking by lunch time. I did take medium-meds at lunch and tea time, but I should have gone to top-meds.

Holding off for an hour or so, then will top-meds it for good overnight cover instead. 🤞🏻

Think the cause might be an unexpectedly early period. Cos menstruation never fails to be a complete nightmare. Honestly think uteruses should live in a drawer, only used for times of useful need, or given away to people who want them for baby growing purposes!

I really hope that doesn't happen cos it's so difficult to schedule stuff, rely on Kim for transport and spoon managing.

I am boggled by how bad most IT systems are. NHS app is also awful (needs the Gov.UK treatment).

Quite, you have to be immensely driven to keep motivated through those 4 years even if there are no setbacks on data collection or someone else publishing on your topic etc.

It's something I warn my students to plan for, finding community and avoiding loneliness which is harrrd,.

And our new government is just as bad as the last lot. We have a cis white working class gay man as health secretary who thinks cos he's working class and gay he groks diversity, when actually he's a huge transphobe (& almost homophobic) and in the pockets of privatising NHS.

There also feels like this real lack of respect for academically credentialled people. No one is saying "you're a better person cos doctorate" but we seem now to think it's OK to diss people for having done academic research based quals.

Yeah, in the past industry would have paid well but now everyone seems to be taking the piss.

It almost feels like the "sick of experts" Govianism still threads strongly through this government (who have no clue about HE at all).

When funded PhD studes panic about stipend end and all PhD finishers all panicking about employment, the (kind, caring, helpful) doctoral college academics are like "We're so sorry, EVERYONE is asking US for jobs".

We're not seemingly allowed Visiting Lecturers any more either. All cut.

I hadn't realised you'd stopped your PhD. I worry about out of uni's control financial issues PhD students face, nevermind the invariable "disabled while in academia" stuff.

Am reading Dr Margaret Price's work Mad at School (en-US meaning en-GB University), and Crip Spacetime on some of this.

My original batchelors degree (weird I know, usually it's Masters only) background is information science, this AI nonsense is 100% bunk and bullshit.

What's worrying tho is the bubble bursting and financial crash implications thereof...

I have a weird degree that is rarely available to undergrads then or now. Being able to write and communicate clearly is probably one of the skills we use most in our job as you say, different registers for different people.

There's never a good time for restructure, but there is a worst time, and this is it.

Everyone hates the font, and asks me "you're disability, wtf font?" cos they can't see how 'we' let the uni do it. It presumes 'we' or anyone else were consulted (and not ignored). I'm beyond angry.

We've had 3 restructures this year, all an absolute joke. Academics who left in March aren't replaced. Prof Services is half unstaffed cos some twerp didn't think 320 job interviews was going to be a logistics nightmare. Lots of staff don't know if they have a job next month. Others angry/exhausted.

Our pharmacy used to be Lloyds, then became a local chain which was clearly a dodgy property scam or something but they would jab anything that moved with even slightest excuse (so my partner got Covid last yr with me and I got flu, no issues). They closed down suddenly, so now hassle.
