Squirrels? Throwing soup cans at each other?
Next to me you are a lump under blankets.
Like a body buried in autumn leaves in the road against a curb.
I imagine you’d want to say the yard sounds like toucans.
You’d want to say toucans, from under your blanket.
But you make no noise.

Situations like these don’t just happen overnight, I want to say.
No, no they do not, is how you’d respond.

From 2011 to 2015, Edward Mullany released a trilogy of books with @pubgen.bsky.social that we return to often. Tiny poems & microfictions both haunting & hilarious. He ended these 3 books with a trio of novellas (The Three Sunrises), a series of fever dream fables not to be missed.

Six witnesses
called it
“Horrific.”

Sad news
casters
said,

“There’s nothing
more to see, nothing
more to say.”

The image was
first pixelated
and blurred

before
the public learned
its truth.

Legislators
and state leaders
agreed

it was too
difficult
to know

where
to next pose
with their gold.
