I kind of wish it was made by a bunch of demosceners and other nerds that wanna communicate their fun with tech.

Like even the music, the first one got Wendy Carlos who was clearly a trailblazer and experimentalist. on new ones we got some fancy names Daft punk or NIN. It doesn’t matter how good the final score is, it just doesn’t make sense fo this franchise.

Ares is even more spectacular on how much it doesn’t care about the premise of “a city inside a computer” than all the “looking for data” scenes are just him handling an ironman-looking UI...
In Tron/Tron2.0 they needed to physically move to *fetch the data*.

And it’s not like we can’t make a cool sequel of Tron. The game Tron 2.0 push the nerdery and universe very far and it’s amazing.

Thing is, in the first Tron it was kind of magical thing where “program where *living* in the computer”. So that premise for *two films* just can't work.

Result is, we got a legacy and Ares made on big name (mostly music) and fancy looking effects and a story that is the generic hollywood story when computer happen (which is “what if computer are alive")

I don’t understand how Tron was thrown into big bugdet franchise thing. It’s a nerd feaver dream made on 20 level of experimental stuff.

I regularly think about those Captain Marvel panels and how cool they look.
(From “Captain Marvel, the last avenger”).

out of context escape from the 21 century

Leaving this here:
Escape from the 21st century is a masterpiece and you (reading this) should watch it if you didn't.

I have to admit, I completely understand why one would hate the movie.
It’s a bit long for bsky to explain why I connected with it so hard.

Funnily enough, The Substance is high-up there somewhere in my top 20 fav movie ever.

I may push myself to watch Titane one day (or find someone who will physically put me in front of it).

No. Unfortunately it’s one of those things where people tried too hard to sell it to me and I got sick of it before getting into it. Like Signalis or The Outer Wilds. 😔

Sometimes, I remember how much I liked Solar Ash. What a magnificent game that was.

Interestingly enough, the two movie that (to me) achieve to bring the visceral sensation of gender dysphoria (and transition) don't even feature trans characters.
I'm talking about Under The Skin (2013) and Possessor(2020).

Praise Cinema Orion in Helsinki. That single independent with 1 screen and doing 8-10€ a seat, doesn’t have those annoying tables and doesn’t look absurdly fancy.
And even, sometimes do 35mm of like mulholland drive or Jeanne Dielman. Finnkino in all its might can’t compete with such awesomeness.

It’s very french of me to say that but even after years I still can’t get used to how bad movie theaters are in Finland.
It’s like 14euros a seat, no subscription-like thing for regular cinephiles, very little non American movies and half of seats are tables with a light that you can’t turn off.

I can’t count the number of times where the entire room was completely empty on release day. Even on big blockbuster releases.
(Which, that mind sounds strange to some but the shared experience is kind of important to me)
newincpp.bsky.social
There is also this strange thing where the seats tend to look absurdly fancy and the room is always silent.
It feels so gentrified for the popular art it’s supposed to be and that kind of makes me sad…

I got a broken gaydar that recognise NB people and notify me through triggering a crush on them.

my 2 cents is: new tech is interesting when you build it to solve a specificity. using it because it's the fancy last thing is a recipe for disaster and it's kind of doomed to look outdated because it will look like when it was fashionable.

The fact we have an international lesbian day (aka today) imply the rest of the year is domestic lesbian day.
