Hi! I’m Kat. My partner, Scott and I specialize in woodturned, hand-painted mushrooms and lathe-turned boxes. We proudly harvest and process our own wood sustainably and locally.

This is my unofficial showcase for what we create at our home here at Sail Loft Studios.

Me of. This reminds ME of blah blah blah.
This reminds Ubaldo Gandolfi’s “Mercury About to Behead Argus”. Quite cool.
Live edge mushroom turned by the hubs and painted by me.
Acrylics, inks, metallic inks, color shift powder on hazel.

Well, who’s a fancy flapjack? We make jars, too! This one’s about 10in tall. Acrylics, ink, metallic inks and powders, and many layers of lacquer. We’re particularly happy with the crazing at the bottom.

I had a writing spider by my door many years ago in North Carolina. She got huge and had babies. Really pretty kind of spooder—give it a google if you haven’t seen them before.
Remember the ugly-stage painting I posted a while back? It’s almost finished. I work more slowly now than I used to, but with less stress & self-criticism. Whether or not a painting is good or even finished, it’s still all practice and building muscle-memory, learning techniques and style.
Are you thinking of the photo where South Vietnamese police chief Nguyễn Ngọc Loan shot Viet Cong captain Nguyễn Văn Lém near the Ấn Quang Pagoda in Saigon?
I’m friends with the Liberties! :)
You need to look at more Stan Laurel photos, ‘cause… no. No he doesn’t.
Today, I submit an unprofessional, non-business-related post here. Sometimes our TV switches the audio from one channel to a different program. Today it’s Doc Martin meets Kojak. Sound up.

Who loves ya, you cretin?
This popped up in my feed. I scrolled past it, hesitated, and scrolled back. To my astonishment, it’s NOT a real dog.

Well done. Very very well done.
Countless hours go into each item we create. The journey starts by sustainably harvesting wood ourselves, drying it naturally up to a year, processing it into blanks, then turning and painting them, with a final week of applying 6-7 layers of lacquer.

How do they compare to liberty caps?
No, not what I was getting at. I love deer women, and I thought you might like to see one that’s centuries old. :)
Did you know there’s a Gaulish death goddess who has deer antlers? You can find her tiny figurine in the British Museum. (And in my profile pic)

This is really clever and beautiful. Love the linework.
