I'll explain better : statistically significant is when deviation from expected value (here : 50%) is superior than deviation caused by random chance (i.e. there's something more happening)
bigger sample = smaller confidence interval (here, sample very big)

I put 50% for the proportion of response because the null hypothesis is that both populations are equal (H_0=mu1-mu2=0)
in this case we'd expect random variations of +/- 0.14% with a certainty of 99.5% (0.5% of false positive), and we observe way more than 0.14% discrepancy

I'm not saying the opposite ! There's a misunderstanding there, I was just mentioning that the global "binary" trans population doesn't seem to be evenly split, that's all, it doesn't invalidate anything this study might be saying, just provides more (I think) interesting context :]

yes of course it is significant ! The sample is absolutely massive, there is a discrepancy bigger than a few tens of percents -- it is statistically significant (understand : "something is happening here that cannot be explained by only random chance")

(2/2) Have too and mention it (specifically abt the newer data from the NCVS), but it's the best I found.
I tried looking at the newest available data from the CDC but I'll be real I have no idea how to use it, so I can't verify the data, but that study was quoted 236 times which is a bunch, so...

(1/2) I requested the full text of the study mentioned in the article to take a look at their data, but escholarship.org/uc/item/4xs9... clearly shows a significant excess of MtF, in the US samples they used.
Now I have my reservations about how they chose which data to collect, and they themselves-

As far as I know there's statisitically significantly more transfem than transmasc people in the overall population though
which if anything makes this more interesting than less
