I'm not great at self-promotion, but here's a recent review of Navvy from Goodreads that does a great job of summing up what book one is about... Check it out! (Link in profile)

Exactly. There's something very old world about their designs... And, if more Americans would wake up and remember our history, it's what most Americans came here to leave behind, whether came in 1620 or 2025. (With the notable exceptions of those who were given no choice, and those who were here.)
nillcord.bsky.social
I am trying to count on the trait that is both America's blessing and curse: the sheer stubborn pigheaded ornery independent spirit of the place.

Ain't nobody telling us what to do.
nillcord.bsky.social
Welp, I'd lay odds that's a family that won't vote Republican any more. The combination of cruelty, cowardice, and incompetence is something to behold.

I predict massive waves of domestic incidents with these ICE workers. All this brutality, it won't end at the workday.
nillcord.bsky.social
Wtfff... So, we're training more um... did that go well when we trained Saudi pilots?
nillcord.bsky.social
I think we can all be assured he most definitely is. I don't mean that in any way as a threat, it just seems obvious. Evil people go to hell.

Yeah I saw the clip where she claims she was "assaulted." I think. It was like three weeks ago, so she'd have no black eye, and it looked like she deliberately walked into a flagpole, and it barely grazed her. I could be wrong.

Like I said before, the antifa meeting is theatrics for Trump.

I don’t have enough followers, so I’m posting it under here

This is the same woman, with the same same cross, same earrings, same outfit….they just took off her overdone makeup and made her look like she got beat up by “antifa” with new make up

They are going any lengths

Am I crazy-or is this the same chick?

Here’s a picture of her going into the White House…and then here’s a picture of a “antifa victim“ that they had in their weird antifa meeting….

…isn’t this the same woman, on the same day, in the same outfit?!

They are going to do awful things to us.

Amway run by the mafia... Maybe real amway is too. Idk
nillcord.bsky.social
I feel like fetes like this that look ridiculous to us are actually just dog and pony shows for one mad king, meant to distract him from any grasp of reality, and to gain his love.
nillcord.bsky.social
Well maybe when I have a proper ARC will send it with some. I have a ton of tea... Maybe a bit of a tea hoarder.
nillcord.bsky.social
I'm poorly organized, but I could try and mail you a tea care package.
nillcord.bsky.social
I kind of went down a tea rabbit hole and usually make it in a little clay teapot with lots of short steps, or sometimes just loose leaf in a ceramic teapot with a filter. That way the leaves expand and you get the full taste.

That being said, I also like black tea in a tea bag with milk and sugar
nillcord.bsky.social
A lot of them are made of plastic and contain inferior tea. They're not the worst thing tho.
nillcord.bsky.social
What kind of men are these, America? The world is watching. What kind of men are you, ICE workers? This kind? Those are the hands you hug your children with? Those are the hands you use on your wife?
nillcord.bsky.social
It must be noted, in addition to it being horrifying, Jocelyn from Cicero sounds like Jocelyn from Cicero. So she's an American. It would be horrifying regardless. It is measures of more horror that they assigned seven fat men to drag one terrified small woman out of a car with no warrant.
nillcord.bsky.social
Teabags are abominations, but tea pods are measures worse. I'm still confused why we needed "pods" in the first place.

Stupid things that drive me slightly batty: Goodreads showing one more written review than displayed.

#WIPSnips of the day? #Battery.

After a string of missed calls while he was working, his sister's phone is dead. Now Erik crosses two state lines in under an hour just to find her, hoping for a simple explanation... and fearing the alternatives.

Text snippet from a word processor, with the word "battery" highlighted in pastel green. The text reads as follows:

I considered what I might do when I got to my sister’s house. Daisy was always notoriously distant from the family, which made my attachment to her feel one-sided, at times. That was even compared to Jonathan, who, despite living literally halfway across the world, still visited more than she did. I couldn’t imagine my experience would be as simple as finding her at her house with a dead phone battery, but I really hoped that was the case. My mind was being particularly creative, and the alternatives it came up with weren’t anything good.
Making my way into Mesquite, I wound through the thickly suburban side streets. As if by some miracle, I remembered the way with only one or two wrong turns, arriving at my sister’s house a short time later. Her car wasn’t in her driveway, but her empty garage was yawning open like a husk. Bicycles, a lawn mower, camping gear, and other fairly valuable items were in plain view from the street.

I'll have to get creative with "battery" and use the verb form - violent physical contact. Jim's not in a good headspace here. He lost his job and can't afford anything for his son's birthday.

TW: self harm
Jim backed out of the driveway, drove out of the neighborhood, pulled over into the edge of someone else’s yard, and dug into a case of beer. The warm liquid fizzed over onto his pants and seat when he opened a can. He chugged until he had to pause for breath. Even though he knew it was useless, Jim searched for the hoodie blind box combo again on his phone. He’d been wrong about the price. It was actually one hundred and twenty dollars, plus a small fortune in shipping to get it to Texas in time for Dylan’s birthday party.
Jim put his phone and beer down and slapped himself as hard as he could across the face.

Mad & Max just had their second meet-cute of the night where Max accidentally ran his bike into her car. So she offers to drive him home, but she is so jet lagged, she lets him drive. Now they are at his home.

#WIPSnips "battery"
Escorting her inside, he showed her to the couch, to which she practically flopped down on, looking more tired than in the car. By the time he brought all the pieces of his bike inside, Madison was crashed on the couch, snoring softly. In an act of compassion, he pulled off her shoes and shoved a spare pillow from his bed under her head before throwing a quilt over her. Since she probably didn’t want the rear window of her rental broken or luggage stolen by opportunistic thieves, he brought her bags and briefcase inside to deter further damage being added to the car. His bike already left an obvious ding that that his cyclist insurance would easily cover.

Madison’s purse was already on the coffee table, so he placed her phone and key fob next to it. Just as he set the phone down, a notification popped up saying it only had ten percent battery life left. Looking at the phone, he knew he had a charging cable that was compatible and plugged it in.

Gazing down at her, in the soft light cast from the lamp next to the couch, she looked even sweeter than under the florescent lights of the bookstore. He was tempted to lean down and give her a kiss on the forehead, preferably on the lips, but she was passed out and couldn’t exactly give her consent.

Just imagine these kids growing up with these images. Imagine it's your parents. Your friends' family.

Imagine it's your dad, dragging a sobbing mother out of her car, leaving her kids standing there. Imagine him coming home to your family. Think he comes home sane? I do not.

CHICAGO — Outside an elementary school during dismissal… horrifying. What have we become?

I just love talking about this topic maybe too much.

It's quite something to consider how hugely popular "Stranger in a Strange Land" was, even though it reads so dated and cringy now. It's also interesting to consider how elements or themes could be re-envisioned to reflect the times of today. Idk. Apologies for coming into your feed...

I can't see the og article, but I adore Bradbury... I also adore Tiptree, Heinlein, Sturgeon, both Vinges, Gibson, Pohl, Zelazny, Butler, Tepper, Offut, and a lot more--and in defense of them, not that they need it--the aspects of content or tone that seem dated or "wrong" are fascinating too.
