There are also atheists who haven’t been hurt by religion but just find that it doesn’t work for them. People have infinite variety.

Most of the antitheists on Bluesky seem to be ex-Christians who know nothing about any religion other than Christianity, and don’t even know Christianity deeply. They share all the insecurities and stridency you attribute to the religious. And they lash out.

I remember the trans atheist who said that because some trans people were converting to Judaism, Judaism was very dangerous and needed to be wiped out immediately.

Nowhere did I suggest that people should not be able to do this. I said that there are people who do this and that they are annoying as fuck. And if you have a problem with that you’re the one in the wrong place.

Okay, have it your way. Coming into random convos to tell the participants that all religions are evil and should be destroyed is just proselytizing for atheism, but definitely not antitheism. Or just antitheism but definitely not proselytizing for atheism. Whichever you want it to go.

No, I’m really not. Ask anyone from a minority religion on here. It goes like:
Atheist: religion is bad because [something that is specific to Christianity]
Me: my religion doesn’t do that
Atheist: yes it does; all religions work much the same way.
Me: ?
Atheist: we need to get rid of all religion.

I have had quite a number of evangelical atheists tell me that we must get rid of all religions. And if my only security against something like this happening is that the people who want it aren’t currently in power, I’m not very safe.

Well, pushing for an end to religion does sort of imply pushing for an end to minority cultures, because “religion” doesn’t work the same way in those cultures as it evidently does in Christianity. And Christianity seems to be the only religion most of these folks are familiar with.
