Dude, this is so good. You're keeping the flame alive with these and don't let anyone tell you otherwise
I figured you weren't in a good place recently but I didn't know it was that bad.

I'm sorry to hear that but I'm happy you're doing better, even if it's just a little bit.

Just know, you've had a positive impact on my life.
And I don't think Project Seed is a MMO but if it is, like I said, I'll abandon every other game I play to let that consume my life.

It could be horrible and I'd still play the heck out of it

But until then, MMOs are kind of a closed book and that's really sad for one of my favorite genres.
It even managed to get a global version this time.

But there's a caveat to this. As someone who played the original, it's just not as good. It's a fine game in its own right but it was designed to be the mobile version of the game first and foremost and it shows.
So now, where MMOs used to have their place, is where gachas are now, leaving MMOs kinda homeless having been pushed out of their little corner.

But... There is still hope. Blue Protocol recently relaunched as Star Resonance and seems to be doing well.
Which created a domino effect and spawned so many other high quality PC and console gachas that it actually completely took over the niche MMOs had in the gaming industry.

Genshin was the MMO killer.
Little did we know, Genshin was a level of quality and production value sp gar beyond anything gacha games had seen, it actually raised the bar for the standard of the entire genre.
It was the game that had everything going for it. It couldn't fail.

And it still did. If the game that did everything right with a massive developer behind it couldn't succeed, no one could.

When Genshin came out, we said it was a nice appetizer for Blue Protocol.
All hopes were on Blue Protocol. I decided this was going to be my one last ride as far as new MMOs go.

When the game came out I played it. I liked it. (And then I got banned)

In my opinion, it did everything right.

And it still shut down and the global version was canceled.
For me, the nail in the coffin was Blue Protocol.

When Peria Chronicles was canceled, I came to this realization but with Blue Protocol on the horizon, I couldn't give up just yet.

A AAA MMO from Bandai Namco, one of the biggest and oldest developers in the industry.

It was the genre's last hope
And each one of those has either already wrapped up its main narrative and basically in post-game mode or getting there.

If these were TV shows, they would be in their final seasons right now.

Meaning even the existing MMOs are themselves coming to an end.
Now, the entire genre has basically shuttered into a tiny corner.

A closed door, essentially.

The only MMOs that will exist now are the ones that already exist. WoW, GW2, FFXIV, ESO, OSRS.

These used to be the big names. The big 5. Now,.with a few exceptions, they're the only ones left..
Shoutout to X-Legend's myriad of MMOs during that time (Grand Fantasia, Eden Eternal, Spirit Tales, Aura Kingdom)
Alright, time to wrap up this little series of mini essays with the one I feel most strongly about.

MMOs.

In the 2010s, the genre was booming. Every other month, there was a new release and there was always something new to play.

I mean, most of the time it was a mediocre Korean MMO but still!
Gaming feels like it's over

Vtubers feels like its over

Anime feels like its over

MMOs feel like it's over

Man, that's like everything that I do.
I think I'm done with VGC. Might even forget my plans to return for Gen 11. I want no part in this.

I do not want to go to these events knowing there will be predators there. I do not want to put myself in that position. It's absolutely disgusting to even think about.
At one point, I wanted to win Worlds to fulfill my childhood dream of being the very best, like no one ever was.

But if THIS is what happens when you do, count me out. Why on Earth is the competitive community for a children's game filled with sexual predators?
I can't hate Wolfe anymore. My heart goes out to him and everyone else who was a victim.

It absolutely breaks my heart that this is happening on such a large scale and I wish I could just snap my fingers and fix all of it but this community is beyond saving.
According to wikipedia, there's 209 Switch 2 games so I think there's plenty to choose from if you know where to look.

Granted, not all of them are out or Switch 2 exclusive but still
Actually it's kind of funny, for the longest time, One Piece was the only thing you could watch on Crunchyroll for free after the change. Now that's no longer true.
Then again, with Toriyama's tragic passing and Ash's story having ended... Is there really anime without Ash and Goku?

Maybe it's not dead but the party certainly is over.
What does it say when Netflix is my go-to site for anime just because it's the only one I'm willing to pay for?

To watch anything other than their limited selection, I have to sail the grand line.

Anime isn't dead but its distribution and localization in America sure is.
Crunchyroll basically ate Funimation and then closed its gates to us peasants when it had a monopoly

Not to mention every streaming service has exclusive rights to different series.

It's completely ridiculous.
Between Crunchyroll and Funimation's free streaming services, you used to be able to watch just about any anime you wanted for free. You just had to sit through ads and wait a week. That's it.

Now everything has to be paid for and paying for 3+ subscriptions is really not reasonable
