It took all the things you mentioned to get people to come out in droves to vote, but I think what pushed people over the edge was the demolition of the East Wing.That was sacrilege by someone with no right to cause such horrific damage to the house belonging to We The People.An unforgivable insult.

We have just concluded a month long food drive but last Sun, the preacher in my church (UMC) reminded people that in addition to more food continuing to be needed, so are diapers. So much need today in a country where help should be easy to ask for and receive.
