Saturday morning. Sun hasn't risen. Drinking coffee while collecting squishy mud #soundeffects that I know I'll need next week for a film I'm working on.

Hiking Cinder Cone. Took 30 minutes to hike a quarter of a mile (700’ elevation gain). 30-35° slope made of loose volcanic sand.

Most goth sand dune in the world. View into the crater and beyond was pretty sick, though.

Your nicest mics may not record the best sounds because you won't put them in the right situations.

Inexpensive mics will get put in more interesting, exciting, or risky places to capture sounds you'd never put a nice mic in front of.

Lassen Volcanic National Park, just to Shasta’s southeast. Spent a lot of time in Hat Creek Valley as well, part of Lassen National Forest.
