Shoutout to No Kid Hungry champion, Jeff Bridges, who has a message for lawmakers as millions are set to lose food assistance

Federal food assistance funding runs out at midnight tomorrow night. Millions of children and families rely on it. This is an emergency.
Congress must come to a bipartisan agreement that reopens the government and fully funds SNAP and all federal nutrition programs.
Thank you for the shoutout and for the sci fi salute!

Today is the #SNAPDayOfAction with @mazonusa.bsky.social, & the time to act is now. 42 million Americans are at risk of losing SNAP benefits on Nov 1st. USDA has a contingency fund but hasn't released it. Contact your Members of Congress today: mazon.org/policy_actio...

contingency fund. use it, fund snap, feed the people, feed the kids.
Congress must come to a bipartisan agreement that reopens the government and fully funds SNAP and all federal nutrition programs.
It is absolutely necessary that USDA take this stopgap measure, but we need a long-term solution fast. With each passing day, the options available to prevent families from missing out on benefits become more limited.
Kids cannot wait another day. Any delay or interruption in benefits will be devastating for recipients, wreck havoc on local economies, and create unnecessary confusion and chaos for SNAP retailers and state agencies.
USDA has the funds and authority to ensure November SNAP benefits are not interrupted. There is a contingency fund precisely for emergency moments like this, and USDA must act immediately to release that funding and transfer available funds to SNAP.
We need our elected leaders to step up and find a bipartisan solution to reopen the government. But let’s be clear: Americans simply cannot go without food while waiting for that to happen.
This would be an unprecedented lapse in food aid made especially urgent by the rising cost of groceries.
We are on the precipice of a hunger cliff like never before. For the first time in the history of the SNAP program, nearly 42 million Americans, including almost 16 million kids, are about to lose their grocery benefits, should November SNAP benefits not be issued.
The following is a statement from our Anne Filipic, chief executive officer for Share Our Strength and its No Kid Hungry campaign:
While federal nutrition programs have continued to operate thus far, USDA announced that there will be no November SNAP benefits. This is DESPITE a SNAP contingency fund for emergency situations like this, estimated to hold $5-6 billion and flexibility to tap into supplemental funds within Sec 32.
With Congress unable to reach a bipartisan agreement to fund federal programs, the government shutdown will soon head into its second month.

Time is running out. 42 million Americans are at risk of losing SNAP benefits on Nov 1st.

USDA has a contingency fund but hasn't released it. The Trump administration is playing politics with people's basic needs.

Tell Congress and USDA to release emergency funds now before benefits run out.

Because Speaker Johnson refuses to reopen the government, I’m doing my weekly #EndHungerNow speech from the steps of the Capitol.

This week, I’m talking about my new bill—the Healthy Meals Help Kids Learn Act. Here’s how it will help feed hungry kids & support local farmers.
Our own Carolyn Vega, associate director of policy analysis, shares the risk to SNAP and what that means for millions of Americans if the government shutdown continues into November. Check it out on @apnews.com: apnews.com/article/shut...
Food assistance is safe through October, but it may be at risk if the shutdown continues
About 40 million people could see food assistance disappear next month if the federal government shutdown continues. The U.S.

What’s imminently at risk as the shutdown continues?

This government shutdown is creating widespread uncertainty and disruption, and if allowed to continue, will hurt millions of Americans who deserve better.
The Administration should immediately release the necessary contingency funds and guide spending flexibility to state agencies so families across our country can continue to receive critical nutrition assistance until an agreement is reached.
