Oh, and I wanted to add: I don't really know furry culture, but I get the impression that it is REALLY social. Just saying.

I'm old enough to remember Republicans losing their absolute fucking minds over the DOJ returning Elián González to Cuba.

Horrific.

Criminals roam our streets. Their lawlessness goes unchecked.
Political cartoon. Menacing, out of control gang members in the U.S. not facing deportation. Drawing of seven ICE criminals with masks and guns.

Absolutely correct and absolutely terrifying.

Unfortunately, Nazis too. Substack should get rid of the Nazis. Then it'd be great.

And they don't need friends when they can have AI friends as confidantes...nonjudgmental and always there. So much less problematic than relating to people, including their parents.

It is a very scary prospect.
notincleveland.bsky.social
My nnew, third fear is that AI is eliminating their need to learn how to think critically and for themselves. Just as there's no need to come up with something to do when you can cue up YouTube on a smartphone, all they need do now when they lack an answer about their lives is get it from ChatGPT.

2. The ability to be so quickly and easily entertained with any passive form of entertainment they choose, anywhere, that they need never a) learn how to behave in public or b) learn how to cope with boredom (books and creativity are the great boredom killers, but kids don't need them anymore).

If you ask me which two things I worry about most with kids growing up today--not just boys:

1. Not getting talked to enough, and being language delayed, because many parents don't see a point in talking to babies, and text rather than converse with friends in front of their kids;

Lots of good advice here--I'd just like to add that I have good true friends in real life that I first met online, and some I only know online. But I have a balanced life, with a mix of people of both kinds. The biggest danger is in kids living their lives only online, going down rabbit holes.

Vance could not give a straight answer to questions about:

➡️ Tom Homan's alleged acceptance of a bribe
➡️ Trump's accusations that J.B. Pritzker is a criminal
➡️ Layoffs at the CDC

This thoughtful post says so much. Radical optimism will be the thing that saves us. "The stubborn, rigorous work of believing in our better Angels, then proving it."

This guy's a great follow, especially if you find yourself wallowing in the daily torment from the white house. There is still hope.

I've seen worlds succumb to the whisper: "Why bother?" That radical nihilism is a poison. It paves the way for strongmen.

My mission is radical optimism. Not naivety. The stubborn, rigorous work of believing in our better angels, then proving it.

The federal food program helping more than 1 in 4 young children access fresh produce, milk, and formula will run out of funding next week.

Over 5 million children could lose food assistance — all thanks to the Trump-Republican shutdown.

The cruelty is endless.

Military school, sadly, isn't special ed. For all we know, he has ADHD and if he'd gotten help for his attention span and impulsive behavior, he could have learned something worthwhile and become a decent person.

Yes. Parents of these students need to get moving. They need to take all the mama-bear and papa-bear energy they invest in getting their kids' needs met and invest it here, now. Otherwise they'll never attend another IEP meeting because there will be no IEPs.

Jim Jordan didn't know when an Ohio State team doctor was molesting male athletes and students...or so he said. Why would we expect him to know about this?
