Not every conversation needs fixing. Some just need feeling.

VMHS connects veterinary professionals with trained peer supporters.

No scripts. No judgment. Just real conversations with people who get it. Because being seen, heard, and understood shouldn’t be rare in vet med. It should be the norm.

“I thought I was the only one struggling.” That sentence comes up often in NOMV’s peer support spaces. It is why we created Lifeboat, a confidential, anonymous platform where veterinary professionals can connect with trained peers who understand the pressures of this field. Visit nomv.org/lifeboat
NOMV is closed today in observance of Indigenous Peoples' Day. We will resume regular operations on Tuesday, October 14, 2025
October 10 is World Mental Health Day. In veterinary medicine, mental health is essential. Long hours, emotional labor, financial stress, and compassion fatigue take a toll. This year, let’s normalize asking for help.

Let’s normalize rest.
Let’s normalize saying “I am not okay.”
Our journey has been shaped by so many stories: of burnout and recovery, grief and resilience, isolation and connection.

This month, we would love to hear from some of those voices, share yours in the comments. In the past 11 years, has NOMV impacted you?
Because every story matters.
October marks World Bullying Prevention month and in veterinary medicine, that includes standing up to cyber harassment.

NOMV’s Anti-Cyber Harassment toolkit is a powerful tool for veterinary professionals facing online abuse.

What began in '14 as a heartfelt response to loss has grown into a global movement of support and change. Founded by Dr. Nicole McArthur in memory of Dr. Sophia Yin, NOMV started as a Facebook group & as has now become a movement—one that now supports thousands of vet professionals around the world.
#SuicidePreventionMonth ends today, but the work continues.

Mental health advocacy is not a campaign, it’s a commitment. NOMV will keep showing up with resources, support, and community.

If you’re struggling, reach out. If you’re doing okay, check on someone. If you’re ready to help, join us.
As #SuicidePreventionMonth draws to a close, it’s time to build.

What conversations can you start?
What resources can you share?
What support can you offer or receive?

This month is about more than awareness, it's about action. NOMV is committed to continuing this work every day of the year.
Social connection is a protective factor against suicide.
That’s why NOMV emphasizes peer support, community-building, and open dialogue. Connection isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity.

#MentalHealthAwareness
In vet med, mental health deserves open, compassionate conversation. When we speak up, we create space for healing and for others to feel safe doing the same.

NOMV’s VMHS are here to remind you: support is real

Let’s keep the conversation going because together, we’re stronger. nomv.org/#vmhs
When leadership prioritizes mental health, the entire team benefits. That means:
✅ Encouraging time off
✅ Creating space for honest dialogue
✅ Modeling vulnerability and compassion

If you need to talk, call or text the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline
In veterinary medicine, the stakes are high. The suicide rate among veterinarians is significantly higher than the general population. That’s why NOMV exists, to change the narrative.

#SuicidePrevention
Suicide prevention starts w/ awareness. Recognizing signs can help

Common signs include:
✅ Withdrawal from colleagues or clients
✅ Changes in mood or behavior
✅ Talking about death or feeling like a burden

Active listening builds trust and opens the door to help. In veterinary settings, where time is short and emotions run high, making space for someone to speak can be life-changing.

#SuicidePreventionMonth
September is Suicide Prevention Month

At NOMV, we believe suicide prevention starts with connection, compassion, and community. This month, we’re focusing on what it means to truly support one another, not just in moments of difficulty, but every day.

#SuicidePrevention #YouAreNotAlone
We are closed today September 1, 2025 in observance of Labor Day. We will resume regular operations on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
September Is Suicide Prevention Month, let’s start the conversation now. Veterinary professionals face one of the highest suicide rates among all occupations. That’s not just a statistic, it’s a call to action.

Throughout September, we’ll be sharing resources, tools, and ways to get involved.
