You might have a long search to find a town in the UK that isn't majority white!

And "Asian" isn't a single ethnicity!

I was one of the "lucky" generation to go to university before politicians of my generation pulled the ladder up behind them. But the value of the educational experiences was far greater than any financial advantage I gained.

He's an older generation. The current leadership of the Tory party has forgotten the lessons of the Thirties, which they only learnt belatedly. And the right-wing press in the UK contained many admirers of Hitler. Plus ca change...

Surely not the trimmings of Episcopacy...

But can you imagine the social media outcry if you wrote that today. Naming students, forsooth!

I wouldn't have thought that GB Mews would have much appeal to the average person the pews.

Immigration is an easy target, it's an obvious change and therefore must be the cause of the problem. Examples abound throughout history (and especially in relatively recent Scottish history)

None of these racisms ever really went away. The Brexit referendum process brought a lot of latent anti-immigration feeling to the foreground, but didn't cause it, it was here already. When times are hard, people look for scapegoats (to use an originally Jewish image...)

I agree with all of the above, and yet cannot be surprised that anti-Semitism is on the rise in a country where 30% of those polled claim to support a party whose main policy is anti-immigration.

To Shap Abbey this afternoon: if you wanted to demonstrate how the buildings and outbuildings in an abbey related to each other this would be an ideal place to go. The abbey was obviously not rich enough to add extra buildings or alter the original plan.
Remains of stone walls of Shap Abbey in the foreground, with column bases in an open space in the centre. A stone built farmhouse with Georgian style windows in the background

The decorative ironwork from the Saracen Foundry can still be seen in what seem to be very unlikely places: March in Cambridgeshire has a good example.

It's Saturday night, so I'm sure you all have the same exciting plan in mind: reading a blog post about Glasgow's 1850s cludgie war.

A chilly wind this morning, and a very welcome door

If you can convince BT that you have a health or other condition that needs a landline, or if you are in a dead zone for mobile phone reception, they will supply a battery pack if the landline is with them.

A Prayer for the Holy Land 🙏

This prayer was written by the Archbishop of Jerusalem, Hosam Naoum, for today's ecumenical Day of Prayer for Peace.

Find out more at cofe.io/PrayForPeace.
Gracious Father, whose blessed Son Jesus Christ
came down from heaven to be the true bread
which gives life to the world:
In your mercy, provide for all those in Gaza
and beyond who suffer from hunger and starvation,
that they may be given both physical bread to nourish their bodies
and heavenly bread to sustain their souls.
By the power of your Spirit,
bring a speedy end to this cruel war,
the release of all captives,
care for the sick and wounded,
comfort for those who have lost loved-ones,
and the opening of a pathway
for a just and lasting peace
here in the very homeland where your Son,
our Lord Jesus Christ,
ministered during his earthly life;
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever.
Amen

Our flag does not belong to one creed or to one race. It belongs to one people, the British people.

We will not let our flag be used to intimidate.
